The Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) organization is seeking a Small Diameter Bomb Principal Engineer to join the Direct Attack team in Saint Charles, MO.

The Small Diameter Bomb (SDB) weapon system is a family of GPS-guided weapons with the ability to attack at standoff range. The weapons are carried on Boeing designed Bomb Release Units (BRU) to maximize carriage from a single aircraft weapon station. The SDB program is in high rate production and currently ramping up to all-time high production numbers in order to meet the end customer demand for the weapon system. In parallel, there are multiple development programs to replace obsolete parts, increase capability and/or create new derivative uses for the weapon system.
Provides the Engineering leadership to a team representing multiple skill areas, which may include internal and external resources and customers. Develop statement of work (SOW) to satisfy research and development, ongoing and new business requirements. Develops new and follow-on concepts that will expand product or services lines. Anticipates change and organizes processes and resources to proactively respond. Identifies performance metrics and ensures that work and project breakdown structure (WBS/PBS), schedule and resource loading is completed by the team. Develops and communicates responsibility authority accountability (RAA) to define team members’ roles and responsibilities. Develops, maintains and distributes team organization charts as needed. Leads project execution to complete the work statement. Plans, identifies and coordinates resources required over the life of the project or program.
Incorporates lessons learned into strategic process improvements. Prepares and presents outcomes, assessments and corrective action initiatives to Boeing management. Works independently.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS (REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science
  • This position requires an active SECRET U.S. Security Clearance. (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active.)
  • 10+ years of experience leading a diverse multi-functional team
  • 5+ years of Development and/or Production program Experience
  • 5+ years of experience in engineering program management or technical management

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (DESIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE):

  • Weapons Experience
  • Supplier Engagement Experience
  • Experience with new development programs

Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent Required

Responsibilities
  • As the SDB Chief Engineer (CE), the selected candidate will be responsible for the performance, quality, and reliability of the GBU-39/B SDB, GBU-39A/B FLM, GBU-39B/B LSDB, and BRU-61 Bomb Release Unit for all domestic and international customers
  • This includes responsibility for configuration control and management of all weapon and BRU configurations produced by the program
  • The Chief Engineer coordinates the efforts of the SDB IPT leads to resolve technical risks and issues in a timely manner to support the high-rate production schedule
  • The Small Diameter Bomb (SDB) Chief Engineer will report directly to the Direct Attack Chief Engineer
  • This role will also be the primary technical interface with the SDB Program Manager, United States Air Forces (USAF) customer Chief Engineer, and Defense Contracts Management Agency (DCMA) for coordination and planning related to program requirements, technical issues, actions and risk management
  • The Small Diameter Bomb (SDB) Chief Engineer will maintain awareness of customer technical concerns and promote a positive working relationship within the program team and with the USAF customer
    This position is expected to be 100% onsite. Some travel will be necessary to meet Program objectives.
