Job Summary We are seeking an experienced small format bindery operator in our small format finishing department. The Small Format Bindery Operator is responsible for operating cutting and bindery equipment to accurately trim down, fold or drill printed materials according to job specifications and production schedules. This role primarily supports small format production by ensuring precise cutting, quality output, and efficient workflow. The position may also support additional bindery operations including 3-hole drilling, folding, and creasing as needed. Essential Duties and Responsibilities · Operate small format cutting equipment including 30.5” Polar cutter or similar · Set up cutting jobs including measurements, programming, and material alignment · Read and interpret job tickets to ensure accurate production according to specifications · Perform precise trimming of printed materials while maintaining tight tolerances · Monitor machine performance and make adjustments to maintain quality and efficiency · Perform quality checks at the beginning, middle, and end of each job · Identify and report quality issues prior to continuing production · Maintain cutting accuracy and consistency across all jobs · Prioritize workload based on production schedules and deadlines · Move and stage materials to and from cutting equipment · Support additional bindery operations as needed, including: o 3-hole drilling o Folding (Horizon folder/creaser, MBO folder) · Perform basic preventative maintenance and cleaning of equipment · Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment · Follow all safety procedures and equipment operating guidelines Perform other duties as assigned Requirements Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: · Strong understanding of cutting and finishing processes · Ability to read and interpret job tickets and production instructions · High attention to detail and commitment to quality · Ability to accurately measure using rulers, gauges, and cutting systems · Mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot minor equipment issues · Ability to maintain consistency and accuracy under production deadlines · Strong time management and organizational skills · Ability to work independently and as part of a team · Basic computer skills for job setup and tracking Qualifications – Education, Experience, License/Certifications: · High school diploma or equivalent required · 2-4 years of experience operating cutting equipment required (Polar or similar preferred) · Experience with small format bindery equipment (3-hole drill, folder/creaser, MBO folder) · Experience in a commercial printing or manufacturing environment preferred Physical Requirements · Standing/Walking: The operator must be able to stand for long periods while working with the cutting table, adjusting settings, and overseeing production processes. This requires stamina and the ability to move around the equipment and workspace efficiently. · Lifting/Carrying: The job requires the ability to lift and carry materials weighing up to 50 pounds, such as large sheets of printed material, tools, and equipment needed for the cutting process. · Manual Dexterity: The role requires excellent hand-eye coordination for operating the cutting table and handling materials with precision. Operators must also be able to perform quality checks, adjust settings, and make quick adjustments while maintaining focus on accuracy. · Repetitive Motion: The operator will perform repetitive tasks such as feeding materials into the machine, operating controls, and making minor adjustments. The ability to maintain efficiency and accuracy during repetitive motions is important. · Vision: Strong visual acuity is necessary to monitor the cutting process, perform quality checks, and read job tickets and specifications to ensure all dimensions and cuts are correct. · Mechanical Skills: A solid understanding of mechanical systems is essential for setting up, operating, and maintaining the digital cutting table, with potential for troubleshooting and performing minor repairs. · Safety and Ergonomics: The operator will be responsible for the safe operation of the equipment and maintaining a clean work area. This includes wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensuring proper ergonomics to reduce physical strain during long hours of operation. · Environment Adaptability: The position may involve working in environments with varying temperatures, depending on the facility. The operator should be prepared to adjust to different working conditions, including indoor environments with machines and equipment that may generate heat. · Communication: The operator will need to communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and other employees to ensure a smooth workflow and address any issues that arise during production. Compensation: The base compensation range for this full-time position is $20 - $26 per year plus benefits.
