Description

Summary – We operate a vending and micro‑market business and need an independent technician to retrofit refrigerated smart‑lock coolers (often purchased from Food Equipment Depot on clearance) into true grab‑and‑go units. The role involves installing contactless payment hardware such as the NAYAX VPOS Touch, which can accept credit cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Samsung Pay and EMV cards, and working with grab‑and‑go software/hardware specialists to add cameras and weight sensors that detect what customers take and automatically charge their account. In smart‑cooler applications, customers present a card or mobile wallet to unlock the door, grab items, and are automatically charged. Large‑capacity smart coolers keep the door locked until a cashless payment method is presented and use automatic product‑recognition technology. The technician will transform standard fridges into frictionless, unattended vending units.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • – Experience servicing or modifying vending machines, refrigerated merchandisers or self‑serve kiosks.
  • – Competence in wiring electronic locks and installing cashless payment terminals (credit card/NFC readers) that accept cards and mobile wallets.
  • – Comfort working with cameras and weight sensors and collaborating with third‑party grab‑and‑go software providers.
  • – Ability to travel to client sites with your own tools and vehicle; bilingual (English/French) communication is an asset.
  • – Independent contractor (you must carry your own insurance).

Responsibilities
  • – Inspect Due North or similar merchandisers and plan retrofits to support unattended grab‑and‑go service.
  • – Install or replace smart‑lock mechanisms so doors unlock only after a card, mobile wallet or code is presented.
  • – Mount and configure NAYAX VPOS Touch or comparable cashless payment terminals; these units accept major credit cards, EMV chips and NFC wallets.
  • – Work with partner companies that provide grab‑and‑go software and hardware (AI cameras, weight sensors, cloud inventory systems) to integrate their equipment into the coolers.
  • – Verify that the system follows the “unlock, grab, go” flow (unlock with payment method, grab item, automatic charging) and test product recognition accuracy.
  • Provide basic network connectivity (e.g., cellular or LAN) so sales data can be tracked remotely.
  • – Document the installation process and train clients on daily operation and troubleshooting.
