REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 14+ years of software engineering experience and an Associates Degree; OR 12+ years of software engineering experience and a Bachelors Degree. Four (4) additional years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • This position requires the candidate possess a minimum of Top-Secret clearance with ability to upgrade to TS/SCI and pass a polygraph within 30 days of employment or at customers request- contract requires TS/SCI with poly. The candidate must maintain the clearance
  • Extensive experience designing and developing Protected Key Management Architecture (PKMA) software, with a strong focus on secure backend systems.
  • Experience in Python, with hands-on experience building scalable backend services and APIs using frameworks such as FastAPI.
  • Proven experience working with modern infrastructure and tools, including PostgreSQL, AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, and Terraform, to support cloud-native application development and deployment.
  • Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of at least one major commercial cloud platform (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP), including its native services for compute, storage, and security.
  • Strong background in backend architecture and development, with a focus on performance optimization, security hardening, and system reliability.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Peraton is developing the next generation of mission planning and command-and-control software for space communications programs. Our team is responsible for creating modern, resilient services and capabilities that will support the U.S. Government’s critical space communications infrastructure for the next decade and beyond.
As a SME Backend Software Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in building a cutting-edge ground communications and data-transport platform for U.S. government satellites. You will design and develop core platform services that enable secure, scalable, and efficient satellite operations. In this role, you will contribute as an individual developer while supporting technical decisions to ensure platform excellence.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

  • Build multi-tenant services on public cloud platforms like AWS
  • Build, architect, and consume APIs and backend services as part of the platform ecosystem with an emphasis on automation, testing, and security
  • Advocate for improvements to product quality, security, and performance that have a particular impact on your team and others
  • Engage with customers and partners to facilitate integration with our services
  • Solve complex technical challenges related to scaling space communications infrastructure
  • Support junior engineering talent with mentorship or technical guidance
