Description

Spotsylvania County Public schools is seeking a Paraeducator to provide instructional support to students, alongside classroom teachers and school administrators, with a focus on enhancing academic achievement in alignment with Title I program goals. This role supports instructional strategies, reinforces learning, and assists with classroom management to ensure all students have equitable access to quality instruction, while collaborating with teachers to foster a positive and inclusive learning environment.
Special note: This is a one-year position that will conclude at the end of the 2025–2026 school year.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Assists students with the organization and completion of daily work assignments
  • Assists with evaluating and testing students
  • Works with small groups of students in various subject areas
  • Follows established procedures for monitoring student behavior when supervising small or large groups
  • Monitors students whereabouts and observe student safety
  • Performs routine clerical duties such as copying, typing, answering/making telephone calls, and basic troubleshooting
  • Performs additional non-instructional duties including, but not limited to, cafeteria duty, bus duty, hall duty, and office duty

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • A minimum of two (2) years working with children within an instructional, educational or related setting
  • Ability to successfully complete and maintain a Basic First Aid and CPR certification

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Paraeducators hired to support within a Title I school must meet the requirements to obtain designation of highly qualified which include:

  • Complete two years of study at an institution of higher education; or
  • Obtain an associate’s (or higher) degree; or
  • Meet a rigorous standard of quality and be able to demonstrate, through a formal state or local academic assessment, knowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing, reading, writing, and mathematics (or, as appropriate, reading readiness, writing, readiness, and mathematics readiness).
