ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Proven experience working with electrically controlled smoke ventilation systems
  • Competence with systems from SE Controls, SCS, Colt, or Teal
  • Strong understanding of AOV systems, fan-powered extract systems, and control logic
  • Ability to test, commission, and troubleshoot both hardware and software-related issues
  • Excellent written and verbal communication for reporting and client liaison
  • Full UK Driving Licence

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Electrical qualification (e.g., NVQ Level 3 Electrical Installation, 18th Edition, or equivalent)
  • Manufacturer training/certifications (SE Controls, Colt, SCS, etc.)
  • CSCS / ECS Card

Responsibilities

ABOUT THE ROLE:

We are seeking an experienced Smoke Control Systems Engineer to join our growing team, working on critical life safety systems across the London and M25 region. The ideal candidate will have electrical competence and hands-on experience with powered smoke control systems, including automated dampers, control panels, fans, and ventilation equipment from leading manufacturers such as:

  • SE Controls
  • Group SCS
  • Colt
  • Teal

You will be involved in the installation, servicing, fault-finding, and commissioning of active smoke control systems designed to maintain tenable conditions in escape routes during a fire.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Installation, maintenance, and commissioning of powered smoke control systems (including stairwell AOVs, shaft systems, and fans)
  • Electrical fault-finding on control panels, actuators, and related devices
  • Programming and diagnostics using manufacturer-specific tools (e.g., SE Controls OS2 / OSLink)
  • Testing and verification of life safety systems in accordance with BS 7346-8, BS 9991, and BS 9999
  • Interpreting and updating schematic wiring diagrams and system drawings
  • Completing service reports, compliance records, and handover documentation
  • Liaising with main contractors, building managers, and other fire safety personnel
