We are seeking an exceptional, self-motivated and enthusiastic individual to provide community engagement activities to reach homeless individuals and families enrolled in PATH (Projects for Assistance in Transition from Homelessness) services to encourage and educate them about services available to them. The SOAR Specialist will be responsible for screening and assisting qualified homeless applicants in completing and submitting SOAR (SSI/SSDI/ Outreach, Access & Recovery) applications. The candidate will target people experiencing homelessness in our local jails, prisons, hospitals, and in the community to assist them in gaining health benefits, and provide information and link them to needed services, advocacy, and outreach. Requirements Requirements for the position include: Requires a Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, mental health counseling or other related human services field is preferred. Individual will be SOAR (SSI/SSDI/Outreach, Access and Recovery) trained. Minimum of three years experience in the social work field preferred. Must be able to pass DCF clearance. https://info.flclearinghouse.com/ Familiarity with local support groups and agencies that provide services preferred. Requires strong attention to detail, especially in data collection and review, and synthesis of reports. Requires excellent verbal and written communication skills. Requires comfort conducting biopsychosocial interviews, group sessions, including psycho-educational, support and life skills. Requires knowledge of severe and persistent mental illness and a comfort working with this population. Requires knowledge of Microsoft Word, internet software and web-based database.
Responsibilities
The SOAR Specialist will engage with homeless individuals enrolled in PATH services to educate them about available resources and assist qualified applicants in completing and submitting SOAR applications for SSI/SSDI benefits. This role involves targeting people experiencing homelessness in local institutions and the community to help them secure health benefits and connect them to necessary services and advocacy.
