JOB DESCRIPTION: SOCIAL CARE TEAM LEADER

Location: Residential Care Home for Young People in Care, Dublin, Ireland
Salary: €45,000 per annum

Hours: 12-hour shifts, 4 days per week (48 hours)

  • Mix of day shifts and some night shifts
  • On-call responsibility required

POSITION OVERVIEW

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Social Care Team Leader to join our residential care team, supporting young people in care. The Team Leader will oversee and supervise a team of social care workers, ensuring the highest standards of care and support are delivered. This role requires a balance of hands-on work with young people and leadership responsibilities, fostering a safe, structured, and nurturing environment.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • A recognised qualification in one of the following:
  • Social Care
  • Social Work
  • Nursing
  • Psychology
  • Teaching
  • Minimum of 2 years relevant work experience, ideally within residential or social care.
  • Previous experience in a supervisory or leadership role (desirable).
  • Strong knowledge of child protection, safeguarding policies, and Irish care standards.
  • Full clean driving licence (desirable).

Responsibilities
  • Supervise, lead, and support a team of social care workers in their daily practice.
  • Ensure high-quality, child-centred care is delivered in line with HIQA standards, legislation, and organisational policies.
  • Act as a role model, promoting best practice in social care.
  • Provide guidance, coaching, and supervision to staff, supporting professional growth and performance.
  • Oversee the implementation of individual care plans and monitor progress.
  • Coordinate staff rosters and ensure adequate cover, including on-call duties.
  • Respond effectively to safeguarding concerns and incidents, escalating as required.
  • Manage and support challenging behaviours with consistency and empathy.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, including staff supervision records, incident reports, and care plans.
  • Facilitate regular team meetings and contribute to organisational planning and development.
  • Work collaboratively with external professionals, families, and stakeholders.
