OBJECTIVES:
EXPERIENCE:
To have worked with young people who have experienced high levels of trauma in their past.
Experience of working in a team.
· To ensure the safety and security of the young people in your care.
· To assist in the drawing up of care plans and placement plans for each of the young people.
· To ensure that the young people observe the rules of the house.
· To write up various logs on events/problems/issues while on shift.
· To attend staff meetings and other meetings as required.
· To record petty cash expenditure in the petty cash system.
· To ensure that the house is kept in good order and that specific tasks regarding cleanliness of the house are carried out.
· To attend staff training days.
· To report maintenance problems to the Manager.
· To share responsibility for the shift, to co-ordinate and provide structure for the young people in our care.
· To manage the handover from staff coming off duty and those coming on shift.
· To be a model to colleagues on shift in the promotion of good professional practice.
· To promote a positive and supportive atmosphere in the house for the young people and colleagues.
· To help ensure compliance with the provisions of the Health and Safety statement.
· To protect the residents from bullying and intimidation.
· To help young people strive towards an appropriate level of contact with families.
· To promote a therapeutic approach to working with the young people in our care.
· To assist with preparation programmes for young people moving on to independent living.
· To liaise with other professionals as keyworker /support worker with the transition of the young person into the house.
· To part-take in the development of individual care plans for the young person which is in keeping with required standards and ensure it is reviewed regularly.
· To liaise with all relevant agencies and Tusla personnel on behalf of the young care person.
· To work an average of 39 hours per week over the scheduled roster, which is flexible in servicing the needs of young people.
· To liaise with education authorities as appropriate for young people.
· To maintain records in accordance with the Freedom of Information and Data Protection Legislation.
· To have a capacity to respond to young people in crisis.
· To carry out duties appropriate to the role as may be assigned from time to time by the Manager.
· To to partake in regular supervision with SCM or other assigned person to explore strengths and difficulties in practice.
· To actively participate in all support mechanisms provided by the organization eg Reflective Practice, debriefing etc
· To avail of ongoing training as required by the management of Don Bosco House.
· To carry out your work in accordance with the principles and values outlined in the Vision Statement/Ethos of Don Bosco Care.
· To have the capacity to manage time appropriately.
· To take an active role at staff meetings.
· To have good communication skills.
· To have a good ability to keep records.
· To have the ability to form appropriate relationships with young people, in ways that foster constructive relationships both formal and informal.
· To have the ability to listen and respect young people’s decisions.
· To be non-judgmental.
· To have knowledge of the Social Care environment and the ability to seek out resources.
· To promote a culture of learning in the service by being informed on the most recent thinking pertaining to the field of social care.
· To ensure information pertaining to the young person and their family is treated with respect and in a confidential manner.
· To undertake specific tasks-responsibilities assigned by management in the development of the service.
