Description Teller County’s Department of Human Services is seeking a full-time Social Caseworker IV- Lead Ongoing Caseworker to perform all duties of an Ongoing Caseworker and serves as back-up to the Intake and Adult Protective Services Units; provides initial response and ongoing support in child protection, Youth in Conflict and/or adult protection situations; conducts crisis assessments and intervention; supervises placement of children out of the home; significantly involved with Courts and other community agencies and professionals. What You'll Do: (1) Respond to and intervene in child, youth, and adult protection crises; provide ongoing support; assess child and family safety, well-being, and permanency needs; conduct client and collateral interviews. (2) Make primary case decisions, including recommendations for child removal or reunification; determine appropriate placements and provide oversight; monitor child needs and services; coordinate family and child visits. (3) Provide intensive casework, guidance, and support to reduce barriers and resolve problems, counsel children, youth, and parents in preparation for family reunification. (4) Develop, coordinate, and monitor treatment/service plans; make and follow up on service and resource referrals. (5) Prepare court reports, testify in proceedings, and monitor compliance with court orders; make recommendations on abuse/neglect cases and child placement. (6) Maintain confidential case records in computerized systems (e.g., Trails, Microsoft Word); document contacts, plans, and recommendations; prepare files for foster care and court reviews; coordinate with legal teams. (7) Consult with community resources and professionals on case situations; participate in team meetings, community meetings, and outreach efforts. (8) As Lead, assist in training and mentoring new staff; provide technical guidance; act on decisions in the Supervisor’s absence. (9) Provide back-up support to the Adult Protection unit as needed; conduct assessments of abuse/neglect of vulnerable adults; deliver services to adults and caregivers to prevent institutionalization; maintain required Adult Protection Services training and certification. (10) Provide back-up support to the Intake unit as needed; conduct assessments of alleged child abuse/neglect; assess safety and determine if situation warrants placement out of the home. Requirements What You'll Bring: Bachelor’s degree in social work or related human/behavioral science field. Three (3) years full-time, post-degree, professional experience in a child welfare/protection setting, including one year at full journey level. Any equivalent combination of education and experience. Master’s Degree in an applicable field is desirable. You Also Have These Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Knowledge of: principles, practices and protocols regarding Child Welfare, Youth in Conflict, and/or Adult Protection; tenets for providing excellent customer service, including client needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction; principles regarding crises and means of intervention and assessment of dynamics of conflict and safety of children and adults; Colorado Children’s Code, state and county social services policies and federal regulations; child welfare and youth in conflict; child development, mental/physical health concerns and family systems. Skilled in: use of computers and office equipment; accurate data entry; writing clear and concise reports; reading and understanding complex government rules, regulations and policies and applying them appropriately; effectively prioritize and manage time to comply with multiple mandated time frames. Ability to: communicate effectively in writing and verbally with diverse populations; establish and maintain effective and professional working relationships with co-workers, other county departments, representatives of other agencies and organizations and the public; assimilate and apply various computer/data entry skills to access and complete county, state and federal case file requirements; assess dynamics of child safety, permanency and parent/child conflict; assess statutory obligations in applicable situations; follow established procedures and protocols in child abuse/neglect cases; assimilate and apply: new approaches, techniques and theoretical practices to a child welfare caseload. Additional Details About the Role: Visual Acuity/Hearing/Speaking: Must be able to communicate with clients and co-workers in person and by telephone; ability to see and read printed materials, documents and characters on a computer screen. Physical Effort/Dexterity: This position requires daily routine computer usage; the ability to drive a vehicle; light physical exertion and the normal range of motion and dexterity; ability to sit (sometimes for extended periods of time), stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, crawl or climb; ability to lift, pull or drag up to 25 lbs. for short periods of time. Environmental Factors: Work is performed in an office setting, clients’ homes and residential facilities. Elements of weather are sometimes encountered; caution must be exercised when intervening in situations involving abuse, neglect, and conflict. Work Schedule/Characteristics: 40 hours per week; participates in after-hours emergency on-call rotation. License/Certification Requirements: Possession of and ability to maintain a valid Colorado driver’s license and ability to successfully complete Colorado Child Welfare Training Academy. Additional Requirements: The ability to pass all background checks (CBI, etc.) and ability to pass a urinalysis test prior to employment.
