Our magnificent territory stretches from the B.C./Alberta border near the Yellowhead Pass to the plateau west of the Fraser River, southeast to the Arrow Lakes and to the upper reaches of the Columbia River. The Splatsin are the southernmost tribe of the Secwépemc Nation, the largest Interior Salish speaking First Nation in Canada.
Position Purpose:
The Social Development Assistant provides vital administrative and program support to the Social Development team. This role combines office responsibilities with hands-on community engagement to enhance the well-being of clients and the broader community. Key tasks include scheduling, documentation, client intake, and supporting the delivery of community-based programs. Collaboration across departments within the Band Office is essential to achieving social development goals and maintaining a high standard of care for clients.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:

ESSENTIAL SKILLS:

  • Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills for interacting with staff and community members.
  • Organization: Ability to prioritize tasks, manage time effectively, and complete administrative duties with accuracy.
  • Interpersonal: Empathy, cultural awareness, and the ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
  • Teamwork: Willingness to collaborate and contribute to a supportive team environment.
  • Community Engagement: Knowledge of community dynamics and experience with outreach or participatory programming.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to address challenges and develop practical solutions within a community context.
  • Computer Literacy: Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).

EDUCATION:

  • Certificate or diploma in Social Work, Community Development, Sociology, Indigenous Studies, or a related field.
  • Certificate or diploma in office base program or related field.
  • 1 year of experience in a community-based or administrative role (volunteer experience may be considered).

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must pass a criminal record check.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation.
    Job Type: Part-time
    Pay: $20.00-$25.00 per hour
    Expected hours: 21 per week
