JOB OVERVIEW

As a Democracy Docket Social Media Specialist, you will play a pivotal role in executing our digital strategy across platforms with a primary focus on creating planned, social-first content and fostering meaningful community engagement. With over 1.3 million followers, we’re looking for a creative, strategic communicator who is passionate about democracy and sees social media as a powerful tool for impact and storytelling.
The ideal candidate thrives in fast-paced, newsroom environments while staying intentional and collaborative. They live and breathe social media, understand the nuances of each platform, and are always thinking social-first. They’re confident navigating start-up culture and deeply committed to showing up authentically in conversations that center vulnerable communities. They will help translate complex legal decisions into compelling, accessible content — contributing to a team that turns information into action.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3+ years of experience in social media, digital content creation, or community management, ideally in a rapid response or fast-paced environment.
  • Exceptional writing and communication skills, with the ability to translate complex legal and political topics into clear, engaging, and accessible social-first content.
  • Strong grasp of storytelling tailored to social platforms, with an understanding of trends, algorithms, and the evolving digital landscape.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and deadline-driven.
  • Experience with graphic and video editing tools such as CapCut, Adobe Creative Suites, Canva, or similar platforms.
  • Knowledge of and/or passion for U.S. politics, legal advocacy, and civil rights issues is essential.
  • Familiarity with social media analytics and the ability to interpret data to inform and optimize content strategy.
  • Comfortable appearing on camera for short-form video content is a plus.
