Job Description:
Job Summary
Reporting to the Assistant Social Mission Secretary, the purpose of this role is to provide supervision and accountability of assigned Social Mission Ministry units, mainly those within the healthcare sector. They will ensure operational excellence, sustainability and the advancement of mission in accordance with The Salvation Army values, policies and procedures, and strategic direction for social mission.

Key Accountabilities

  • Provide mission-driven leadership ensuring ministry units consistently embody The Salvation Army’s values, mission, and operational practices.
  • Guide and support Executive Directors in strategic planning, decision-making, and compliance with territorial standards, legislation, audits, and accreditation.
  • Lead talent management efforts including recruitment, coaching, mentoring, succession planning, and performance development for executive leaders.
  • Foster effective communication and collaboration within ministry units and with Social Mission teams, funders, community partners, and other stakeholders.
  • Offer expert advice and operational support for complex issues including critical incidents, HR challenges, financial sustainability, property projects, and internal audits.
  • Ensure programs align with organizational values and support continuous improvement, innovation, and adherence to program standards.
  • Manage administrative oversight including evaluation and approval of proposals, contracts, and operational decisions per delegated authority.
  • Model resilience, integrity, and professionalism while promoting a culture of learning, feedback, and staff development.
  • Build coalitions and partnerships internally and externally to mobilize resources and support shared outcomes, while effectively navigating conflict when necessary.
  • Apply systems thinking to drive continuous improvement, sustainable change, and alignment with best practices and sector trends.

Education and Experience Qualifications

  • Minimum 5-7 years of experience in healthcare or social services, including at least 3 years in a managerial role.
  • Experience with The Salvation Army’s social mission delivery is highly desirable.
  • Background in community development and proven ability to foster collaborative partnerships.
  • Demonstrated capacity for strategic thinking, complex problem-solving, and innovation.
  • Strong leadership, coaching, and human resource management skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, able to influence and engage diverse internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in managing complex documents, proposals, contracts, and computer-based management systems including Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to maintain composure under pressure, demonstrate integrity, and pursue ongoing personal and professional growth.
  • Willingness and ability to travel interprovincially up to 30%.

Compensation:
The target hiring range for this position is $135,102.26 to $168,877.83 with a maximum of $202,653.39.
Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
