QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s Degree in Social Work (MSW) is required and Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) is preferred. Bilingual in Spanish is preferred.

JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: Social Worker (Bilingual preferred)
Facilitates student school adjustment for maximum educational benefit by helping to identify and resolve social and emotional problems.
REPORTS TO: School Principal

EXAMPLE(S) of WORK PERFORMED:

  • Assigned areas of responsibilities and buildings of the district.
  • Provides assistance to teachers and parents in understanding student needs or problems.
  • On request, attends parent-teacher or IEP conferences to help in understanding the student’s needs.
  • Serves as a consultant to teachers, parents and administrative personnel on student issues affecting social adjustment, behavioral functioning and overall welfare.
  • Serves as a resource person to refer children and their families to community agencies and maintains contact with the agency while children are being served.
  • Provides information to teachers regarding the signs of suspected abuse/neglect and the procedures to follow in making referrals to the Division of Family Services.
  • Visits schools and classrooms to observe students, collect data, and to work with teachers.
  • Makes home visits and telephone calls to obtain or disseminate information.
  • Transports students and or their families to and from providers if other transportation is not available.
  • Engages in individual student or student and parent counseling.
  • Develops programs and conducts group counseling for students.
  • Assists administrators in investigating student attendance and behavior problems.
  • Develops and conducts in-service for programs for parent groups, teachers and other personnel.
  • Represents the District at professional meetings and conferences.
  • Able to interpret District objectives and policies to the public.
  • Keeps activity records and provides monthly statistical report for the social work supervisor.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

  • Develops information for written reports and correspondence to officials inside and outside the district.
  • Discusses individual student programs with teachers, principals, and parents.
  • Conducts individual or group meetings.
  • Communicates with employees, parents, suppliers, etc. via telephone.
  • Reviews written documents, test results, and other materials for administrative purposes

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:
Vocational Preparation: (Experience)
Experience in a school setting or in secondary practice. Experience in dealing with problems of children and their families. Experience in both casework and group work techniques.
Education Preparation: (Formal and Informal)
Master of Social Work degree required
Bilingual preferred
