The Bath & North East Somerset Council is currently seeking experienced and committed Social Worker to join the Family Support Team, supporting children and families through Child in Need, Child Protection, and Court processes. You’ll manage a varied caseload and work collaboratively with families and professionals to secure positive outcomes and ensure children are safe, supported, and heard.

Responsibilities

ABOUT THE ROLE:

This is a frontline statutory role where you’ll carry out assessments, lead on planning and interventions, and progress cases through safeguarding and court pathways. You’ll work within a dynamic and values-led local authority that puts families at the heart of decision-making and supports you with clear processes, supervision, and collaboration.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Undertake strength-based, outcome-focused assessments
  • Lead on Child in Need (CIN), Child Protection (CP), and care proceedings
  • Work directly with children and families to plan safe, practical solutions
  • Monitor and review progress to adapt plans as needed
  • Assess and manage risk, escalating concerns appropriately
  • Liaise with schools, health, legal teams, and external agencies
  • Maintain accurate records and professional documentation
  • Contribute to multi-agency discussions and attend court as required
