WHO WE ARE

District of Columbia International School (DCI) is a public charter school serving over 1600 racially and economically diverse students in grades 6-12 from across the District of Columbia. Position Overview: DCI is hiring a full-time Social Worker. The School Social Worker provides behavioral and emotional support counseling services to students with IEPs and 504 plans at DCI and supports mental health emergencies in order to promote a positive educational environment for all students. This position will also collaborate with appropriate personnel to ensure positive service delivery for students.
Salary Range: $63,113 - $105,575 (Starting salary is determined by education and years of relevant experience)

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree is required.
  • Bilingual in Spanish (preferred).

KEY QUALITIES & SKILLS:

  • Provide direct support services to individual students, small groups, and classrooms, including through group and individual therapy and classroom support.
  • Document all services in EasyIEP (special education database)
  • Develop present levels, goals, and progress notes for students on caseload.
  • Complete assessments, referrals, and counseling with students and families.
  • Provide crisis intervention.
  • Utilizes responsive counseling, initiating individual and group sessions for students’ academic, social and personal concerns.
  • In partnership with assistant principals and counselors, monitor student attendance and implement attendance interventions as needed for students on caseload.
  • Develop and maintain family outreach programs and community partnerships.
  • Serve as a member of the family support team and other school based teams.
  • Serve as school liaison to social service agencies.
  • Advertise course offerings to students and supports the scheduling process.
  • Completes the course selection process including updating and editing student course selections.
  • Collaborate with general and special educators, coordinators, and leadership.
  • Communicate through a variety of mediums with parents and students.
  • Embrace French, Spanish, and Chinese cultures by leading and participating in cultural activities for faculty and students Other duties as assigned.
  • High degree of communication through a variety of mediums with parents and students.
  • Embrace professional development through attending coaching meetings, school/content-based sessions, and external development opportunities to deliver instruction at a high level.
  • Collaborate with general and special educators, coordinators, and leadership.
  • High degree of communication through a variety of mediums with parents and students.
  • Embrace French, Spanish, and Chinese cultures by leading and participating in cultural activities for faculty and students.
  • Other duties as assigned.
