BACHELOR’S OR MASTER’S DEGREE IN SOCIAL WORK, ACTIVE SOCIAL WORKER LICENSE AND MINIMUM 1+ YEARS SCHOOL SOCIAL WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIRED. APPLICANTS WHO DO NOT MEET THESE QUALIFICATIONS WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED.

An opportunity is available for a School Social Worker to provide essential support services at an elementary school serving early childhood students (Kindergarten through 2nd grade). This contract position, beginning mid-September through the end of December, involves working directly with a caseload of approximately 50 students, predominantly those with IEPs, 504 plans, or general education consent for social work services.
Location: Warren, MI
Duration: Mid-September to end of December (Leave Coverage)
Schedule: 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 8:45 AM 3:45 PM
School Setting: Elementary, lower grades (K-2)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide social work services to students with diverse needs, including those with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), 504 plans, and consent-based interventions
  • Conduct regular weekly sessions with most students to support their social-emotional development and overall well-being
  • Collaborate with school staff and families to develop and implement individualized support plans
  • Assist in crisis response as needed; training and certification in Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) will be supported (training costs covered)
  • Maintain accurate documentation and comply with confidentiality standards and district policies

Qualifications:

  • Valid Michigan School Social Worker Certification with a 310 letter is required
  • Experience working with elementary-aged children, particularly in early childhood education settings
  • Ability to manage a caseload effectively while providing compassionate, student-centered services
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with educators, families, and support teams
  • Willingness to participate in crisis intervention training
