About the role
Reporting to the Software Engineering Manager you will lead a team of front-end, full stack and back-end software engineers to design, develop, test and maintain proprietary Callen-Lenz applications.
There will be an estimated 70/30 split between hands-on software engineering and team leadership. This combination will see you splitting your time between coordinating and contributing to all aspects of application design, implementation and testing and managing your team inclusive of goals setting and day to day support.

Responsibilities

  • Ownership and governance of application software code, repositories and processes.
  • Collaboration with stakeholders to define software requirements and plan delivery.
  • Support Project Managers in scoping and estimating software engineering tasks.
  • Ensure sufficient test coverage is in place, working closely with the testing team.
  • Distribute work and ensure processes are followed by the software team.
  • Work closely with other Team Leads to align goals and maximise efficiency.
  • Line management responsibilities including 1-1s, goal setting, quarterly performance reviews, holiday and absence approval.
  • Definition of software design documentation and coding standards.
  • Assist the Software Engineering Manager where required, including resourcing and recruitment.
  • Mentoring and coaching of team members in the use of software tools and techniques.
  • Knowledge sharing of the latest software engineering practices and tools
  • Demonstrate in daily activities a commitment to health and safety in the workplace by always ensuring tasks are performed in the safest possible manner
  • Report all hazards and incidents that the individual is party to, or observes, in the correct manner.
  • When required or directed, participate in any health and safety training.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Skills

Essential

  • Considerable experience of designing, developing and documenting complex application software.
  • Proven track record of leading and delivering large software projects.
  • Knowledge of a variety of front-end and back-end programming languages and tools such as React, Node.js, Go and TypeScript.
  • Expert user of version control software such as GitHub or GitLab.
  • Mentoring and coaching software engineers of all levels.
  • Significant experience with issue tracking tools such as Jira.

Desirable

  • Extensive domain knowledge of Callen-Lenz software.
  • Understanding of real time and embedded software.
  • Knowledge of safety related engineering practices.
  • Previous experience or interest in drones or aviation.
  • Line management experience.
