Job Description
Join a high-impact mission to bring next-generation software to the Navy’s warfighters. As part of the Software Architecture and Engineering Team, you won’t just write code, you’ll shape the future of defense technology.
We’re looking for a visionary Software Architect to lead the design of modern, resilient software solutions that power critical naval operations. This elite team sets the gold standard for engineering excellence across the organization, driving best practices and establishing scalable architectures.
In this role, you’ll apply your deep expertise in design patterns, software craftsmanship, and architectural principles to tackle complex problems from logical separation of concerns to end-to-end system design. Key Responsibilities:
- Establishing Engineering best practices and guidelines for software design and implementation across the organization.
- Provide hands-on experience, guidance, and strategy, around Design Pattern solutions and their application, Modular Code, Microservices Design, Service Oriented Architectures, Event and Test Driven Design, Model Based Systems Engineering (Model Based Design, Model Driven Design), separation of Data/Interface/Processing layers, and reusable function and code design, and similar techniques.
- Establishing reusable templates and code libraries, and processes and guidelines for contributing to them, and evangelizing their shared use across the organization.
- Provide strategy and guidelines for consolidating and standardizing implementation solutions for future reuse.
- Collaborating with Software Application Product teams each sprint, to provide consultation and guidance around design of implementation solutions.
- Lead Design Review boards and discussions.
- Design and Develop Prototypes and Proofs of Concepts.
- Encourage and facilitate knowledge sharing and upskilling among software engineers.
- Cataloging and maintaining an inventory of implementation solutions across the organization.
- Has many of the qualifications of a Senior/Lead/Principal Software Engineer, including the following skills:
- Hands-on experience with at least 3 different programming languages (i.e. Java, Node/JavaScript, C#, Python, Perl).
- Hands-on experience with at least 2 different databases, including at least one Relational Database, and one NoSQL Database (i.e. Postgres, MSSQL, Oracle, MariaDB/MySQL, MongoDB, Redis).
- Hands-on experience with at least 2 User Interface Frameworks (i.e. Bootstrap, JQuery, Vue, Next).
- Understands APIs, Microservices, and/or Server-Client application interactions and design, with hands-on experience in at least one of those areas.
- Experience running code reviews and mentoring junior developers.
- Experience leading and presenting engineering topics to non-engineering and executive stakeholders.
- Knowledge of caching, indexing, and queuing technologies preferred.
- Full Stack Software Developers preferred.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Secret or Top Secret clearance.
- At least 7 years of software engineering experience.
- At least 4 years of experience in the commercial industry sector preferred.
- At least 1 year of experience leading a team as a lead software engineer.
- At least 1 year of experience as a Principal Software Engineer, Software Architect, or Lead Software Engineer, helping teams and organizations make final decisions on architecture and technology decisions.
- At least 1 year of experience running and participating in code reviews for a team.
- At least 1 year of hands-on coding experience in each of 3 of the following programming languages: C/C++, C#, Java, Go, NodeJS, JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, Perl, PHP.
- At least 2 year of hands-on coding experience designing and implementing databases and database schemas for a production software system, with experience in both Relational and NoSQL data stores, covering at least two different data store systems (i.e. Postgres, MSSQL, Oracle, MariaDB/MySQL, MongoDB, Redis).
- At least 1 year of hands-on coding experience building and deploying production containerized software applications for either Docker, DockerSwarm, Kubernetes, or OpenShift (or similar).
- At least 1 year of hands-on coding experience with either ReactJS or Angular (or a similar front-end framework)(experience with ReactJS preferred).
- At least 1 year of hands-on coding experience with Data Caches, Data Indexes, Data Streams, or Data Queues (experience in all of these preferred).
- At least 1 year of experience developing and deploying production software applications in at least one of the following cloud providers: AWS, Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure.
- At least 2 years of hands-on experience designing and implementing Application Programming Interfaces (APIs).
- At least 1 year of hands-on experience authoring validation and test suites for use within CI/CD pipelines to cover software application functional/integration/regression testing.
- Must have experience in authoring or implementing automated test harnesses and testing frameworks, and authoring Test Suites, for both unit tests, and for automated functional/integration tests, to be used within CI/CD pipelines and other automated development environments.
