NIE invites applications for the position of part-time software developer for the project “PhET-style simulations to promote AI literacy”. The project’s goal is to develop a curated library of interactive, high-quality online resources for teachers that puts NIE at the forefront of AI literacy. To work towards this goal, the project will start out by developing customizable web-based simulations and corresponding avatar-based narrative instructional videos catering to three fundamental topics in AI literacy - Personalization using Machine Learning and Neural Networks, Ethical Issues in AIED, Human-AI Collaboration. These simulations would allow student teachers to experiment with relevant critical task features in a hands-on manner, thus improving their understanding of abstract technical concepts in AI and the implications of their usage in AI systems for education. Project evaluation would focus on usability evaluation and learning evaluation of the programmed simulations. Facilitation resources and validated design guidelines for developing effective AI literacy simulations will be made available to educational stakeholders upon project completion. This is a contract position till 30 November 2026.
