JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for validating product quality by analyzing and testing the quality of the code base. Focuses on writing code that will be executed in an automated and repeatable fashion which will reduce manual testing efforts and increase code quality and consistency. Develops and maintains code that validates front-end, middleware and database systems, using the latest tools and programming languages. Provides input into various software development lifecycle stages. Partners with software engineers to write efficient automation code using coding standards and best practices. Reports test execution results to senior leadership. Repairs complex broken automation scripts and performs peer reviews of automation codebase. Integrates knowledge of business and functional priorities. Acts as a key contributor in a complex and crucial environment. May lead teams or projects and shares expertise.

The VIPER team is an organization within Comcast’s grander Technology Product and Experience organization (TPX) which supports the Product Management, Research & Development, Engineering and Operations for Comcast’s Elite Video Experiences in use by Comcast and Syndicated Partners. We support both legacy QAM Video Delivery and the Next Generation IP Video Platform infrastructure from Content Acquisition to the Player consuming experiences we control the end-to-end Video delivery platforms. These platforms deliver video for live linear, video on-demand and cloud DVR services consumed by more than 20 million customers both in-home and out of home on STB’s, connected tv, mobile and desktop products.

ABOUT THE ROLE / PLATFORM:

As a Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) on the Player Platform QA team, you will take part equally in software development and testing processes, focusing on the testability, robustness and performance of IP video playback experience.
Player Platform is an SDK written in various programming languages like Kotlin, Swift, Typescript, Bright script etc., that powers IP video playback experience on X1 platform set-top boxes and Xfinity Stream applications on Android, iOS, Web browsers and Roku platforms. Player platform provides a video player that integrates with our video streaming, content protection (DRM), advertisement, emergency alerts and real-time analytics services. As an SDET, you will be building automation testing tools and frameworks to assist the manual testing process.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

  • Collaborate closely with development team and automation testers to ensure deliverables meet quality
  • Work with development teams to plan, implement, and track Component testing activities
  • Effective failure analysis and consistent testing status reporting to the team and leadership
  • Function as a leading member of our agile team and help drive consistent testing practices
  • Ensures engineering team delivers a quality product that meets the defined Acceptance Criteria
  • Coach and mentor other QAs on the team to contribute to effective testing
  • Follow agile practices – run daily scrums, planning, grooming and sprint retrospective meetings
  • Support test planning, manual and automated test cases/scripts, and test execution
  • Analyze manual and automated test scenario results.
