Description

ABOUT THIS FINTECH OPPORTUNITY

Bounce is the new social way to pay; a smart and fun alternative to traditional money transfers. Canada’s first Venmo-style app, rail-agnostic, and designed to go viral (Hey, Bounce me!). Whether you’re requesting for rent, sending money for concert tickets, or splitting trip group expenses, Bounce lets you move money across any account, with zero fees. Add your vibe with an emoji, snap a quick pic, and turn everyday transfers into something you actually enjoy doing.
After two years of building in stealth, we’re launching next month within universities exclusive partnerships with Mastercard. Our 12-person team backed by top experts in payments, banking, legal, U.S. market expansion, and user experience. We’re building the rails that will power millions of Canadians’ daily transactions, and this is your ground-floor chance to help define the future of payment in Canada.
This is our first Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) hire. This is not a request for a QA tester; it’s an invitation for an experienced, visionary engineer to join us as a peer and build our entire quality assurance foundation from a near-greenfield state. You will be the architect of our future, embedding yourself in our development process from the ground up to ensure everything we ship is robust, reliable, and secure. If you’re a builder who thrives on ownership, ambiguity, and massive impact, this is your chance to shape the technical DNA of a company.
What You’ll Build

Your mission in the team is foundational and multi-faceted:

  • Define the Standard: Lead initial manual QA efforts with an eye toward automation. Meticulously outline acceptance criteria, highlight critical edge cases, and provide sharp business requirements analysis.
  • Architect Automation: Design and build our automated testing frameworks from scratch. Identify key workflows across web, mobile, and backend services, then construct robust, scalable systems to automate them.
  • Elevate the Team: Embed quality into our engineering culture. Improve collective testing practices, write documentation, and provide feedback that fosters team growth.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • You have 3+ years in Quality Assurance or Automation roles, with an engineering mindset that focuses on root causes and architectural solutions.
  • You have deep expertise in breaking systems and a relentless curiosity for finding vulnerabilities.
  • You are excited by near-greenfield projects, capable of defining goals and prioritizing work independently.
  • You are calm under pressure, able to articulate complex technical ideas to both engineers and non-technical stakeholders.
  • You are calm and decisive under pressure, with a profound sense of ownership that drives you to see problems through to their resolution.
  • You communicate complex technical ideas with clarity and conviction to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • You thrive in the ambiguity of an early-stage environment, seeing it not as chaos, but as an opportunity to create structure and excellence.
  • You are always curious about learning about new tools and technologies to incorporate into your work flows.
  • You are a team player always ready to listen, provide feedback when necessary and foster collaboration.

TECH SKILLS

  • Proficiency in Typescript (for front-end) and Python (for backend services).
  • Proficiency with test frameworks, such as Playwright, Cypress, or WebdriverIO or others.
  • Use a platform like Qase or similar for test case management.
  • Experience with AWS, GCP or Azure.
