Description:

The Canadian Light Source Inc. (CLSI) is a national research facility of the University of Saskatchewan. CLS produces very bright light to explore the nature and structure of molecules, and serves national and international users from academia, industry, and government institutions.
CLSI is now accepting applications for an SDS Software Development Lead. The Software Development Lead is responsible for executing the direction and operations of the software development team while ensuring alignment to the overall strategy as set out by the Software and Data Services Manager. The Lead will be responsible for the overall quality and maintainability of custom software and integrated solutions within the corporate software portfolio while promoting a healthy team moral.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A relevant undergraduate degree/certificate
  • Minimum of 3 years of related experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Execute the IT and/or Project Management Office process as it pertains to the software development team including, but not limited to, requirements gathering, scoping, stakeholder engagement, documentation, team post-mortems and reporting.
  • Ensure project delivery timelines are well understood and communicated to the software development team and corresponding stakeholders
  • Guide the software development team in developing and/or executing:
  • Web Development Standards
  • System Architecture
  • Modular Design
  • Operational Metrics
  • System/Service Deployment schemes/strategy
  • Oversight of operational direction and development of team related operational and performance metrics
  • Oversight of the software support desk and customer satisfaction with relation to operational items
  • Participate in setting software development priorities with the Software and Data Services Manager
  • Performance management oversight and operations for the software development team
  • Participate in workforce planning and management as it pertains to the software development team
  • Engage with stakeholders ensuring changes to systems are well informed
  • Execute proper change management over the software development team’s services
  • Other general duties as assigned:
  • Defining and iterating on team related processes, metrics, and reporting
  • Direction of day-to-day team duties and work management
  • Contribute to overall IT and Department strategies
  • Operationalization of strategic tactics and initiatives
  • Budget consideration and development as it pertains to the software group
  • Lead R&D initiatives and develop proposals for consideration with Software and Data Services Manager
