Description

What you will do

  • Design, build, document and maintain high-quality REST APIs for risklab's digital wealth management and quantitative investment advice capabilities
  • Maintain and extend existing backend services and microservices, improving modularity, reliability, scalability and operational resilience
  • Drive API lifecycle management best practices, including versioning strategies, contract design, backwards compatibility, authentication, documentation and partner-facing integration quality
  • Evaluate and improve existing application and platform architectures with a focus on maintainability, scalability, security and operational resilience
  • Support and improve cloud-native deployments on Azure, including Docker-based services, Kubernetes/AKS workloads, Helm-based deployments and operational runbooks
  • Strengthen CI/CD and DevOps practices using GitHub Actions and related tooling, with a focus on repeatable deployments, automated quality gates and secure software delivery
  • Contribute to DevSecOps improvements, including dependency management, vulnerability remediation, security scanning, container image hygiene and secure configuration practices
  • Improve functional and non-functional testing, including automated API tests, integration tests, end-to-end tests, performance tests and regression coverage for critical journeys
  • Support production operations by troubleshooting incidents, analysing performance bottlenecks, improving monitoring and contributing to root-cause analysis and continuous improvement
  • Support and extend platform integrations and cloud services, including Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks, Azure SQL, Redis and related Azure technologies where required
  • Work closely with investment professionals, product owners, business stakeholders and technology teams to understand business problems and translate them into scalable, secure and maintainable software solutions
  • Help raise the engineering maturity of the platform by improving automation, documentation, observability, deployment reliability and operational readiness

What you bring

  • 3 to 5 years of professional experience in software development, ideally in backend, API, cloud-native or platform engineering roles
  • Strong hands-on experience designing and implementing REST APIs, including API lifecycle management, versioning strategies, contract design, backwards compatibility, authentication, authorisation and documentation
  • Good understanding of microservices architecture and related design patterns, including service boundaries, resilience, observability, service-to-service communication and data ownership
  • Hands-on experience with at least one modern programming language, ideally Python or C#
  • Good knowledge of cloud-native application development, preferably on Microsoft Azure
  • Hands-on experience with Docker and Kubernetes. Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) and Helm experience are strong advantages
  • Practical experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices. GitHub Actions experience is preferred and exposure to DevSecOps practices is highly beneficial
  • Good understanding of testing strategies for production systems, including unit, integration, contract, end-to-end, performance and non-functional testing automation
  • Experience improving production systems in areas such as scalability, performance, monitoring, incident troubleshooting, vulnerability remediation and operational reliability
  • Knowledge of Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks, Azure Data Lake, Azure SQL, relational databases and NoSQL/cache technologies such as Redis is beneficial
  • Awareness of secure software development practices, vulnerability management and secure-by-design engineering principles
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make pragmatic trade-offs between delivery, quality, security and maintainability
  • Comfortable working with production issues and supporting day-to-day platform operations.
  • Collaborative, proactive and self-reliant working style, with the ability to communicate technical trade-offs clearly to both technical and business stakeholders
  • Interest in investment technology, quantitative methods, optimisation, analytics, AI-assisted software development, agentic AI systems, or portfolio construction is a plus; prior finance experience is not required
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English
