The COMET contract provides overall management and implementation of ground systems capabilities, flight hardware processing, and launch operations at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center (KSC) in Florida. These tasks will support the International Space Station, Ground Systems Development and Operations, and the Space Launch System, Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle, and Launch Services programs.
This position provides software development support to the Command & Control Systems (C&C) directorate under the Consolidated Operations, Management, Engineering and Test Contract (COMET) at NASA Kennedy Space Center (KSC). The C&C organization is responsible for the design, development, sustaining, testing, and operations of the Control systems within the KSC Launch Control Center (LCC). Individuals will work in a dynamic team environment and will be responsible for software design, implementation, testing, user support, maintenance, and operations of software systems in support of the KSC Launch Control Center (LCC).
The employee will be a part of the Information Architecture team working on the analysis, design, development, documentation, testing, deployment, and maintenance of software for the Launch Control System. The team is expected to work closely with other software developers, testers, architects, and end users to exceed customer expectations. The team works within a flexible hybrid remote work environment with two days remote and three days on site.

QUALIFICATIONS - EXTERNAL

Bachelor of Science (BS) in Engineering or technical equivalent from an accredited institution.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Proficient in developing Ruby on Rails applications •Proficient in Python, Java, C++, or other coding languages
  • possess strong initiative, teamwork, problem solving, and customer engagement skills.
  • Ability to analyze information and provide creative solutions.
  • Experience with Software Development Fundamentals and Software Development Processes.
  • Requires close communication and collaboration with end users, customers, and other members of the team.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products (MS Office Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and internet browsers.
  • To be successful, the candidate shall have the ability to work towards deadlines and delivery quality products on their assignments.
  • Ability to work independently and on teams.Evaluate all safety critical software for both its safety as an independent component, and for how it contributes to the overall system safety for project, program, or facility.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • May be required to climb stairs to access equipment for trouble shooting.
  • May be required to wear hearing protection, eye protection, and other associated personal protective equipment.
  • Position may involve extended periods of sitting or standing.
  • Physical requirements are sitting, walking, standing, extensive use of stairs, and access to remote structures.
  • Position is located on a hazardous testing facility; must be able to quickly evacuate buildings in the event of an emergency.
Responsibilities

RESPONSIBILITIES

Areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform software development of respective system following design, coding standards and documented promotion and configuration management processes.
  • Perform technical reviews of code, test, and design.Adhere to software plans, procedures, processes, and standards.

Create and run test procedures to evaluate the performance of system software.

  • Document test results and associated issues.
  • Training and work assignments to prepare for software engineering within the rest of the C&C organization.
  • Support the maintenance and creation of software releases to support operations.
  • Update technical documentation to reflect current system configuration.Perform other duties as assigned.
