Description
The iCloud Platform Client CI & Testing team is seeking a Software Engineer to focus on Developer Productivity and At-Desk Developer Experience. This role expands the team’s responsibility beyond CI pipeline reliability into establishing consistent, reliable, and scalable local development workflows. The engineer will own tooling, standards, and validation processes that ensure local development environments align closely with CI behavior, enabling engineers to move faster with greater confidence across a rapidly evolving OS, SDK, and toolchain ecosystem. DESCRIPTION This role is responsible for improving developer productivity across iCloud Platform Client teams by standardizing local development environments, validating pre-release toolchains, and building tooling that shifts quality earlier in the development lifecycle. The engineer will partner closely with CI, testing, and platform teams to reduce environment-related friction, detect regressions earlier, and ensure consistent behavior between at-desk development and CI systems. The position sits within the CI & Testing organization and operates at the intersection of local development workflows, CI infrastructure, and platform validation. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Strong experience with CI/CD systems and automated testing for large-scale software projects Proficiency with macOS development tooling, including Xcode, SDKs, and build systems Experience building developer tooling, automation, or infrastructure to improve developer productivity Strong programming skills in at least one systems or application language commonly used for tooling or automation such as Shell Scripting (Bash) and/or Swift Experience diagnosing and resolving build, test, and environment-related issues Ability to work cross-functionally with infrastructure and product engineering teams Bachelor’s degree in an engineering-related field or equivalent job-related experience PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Experience working on Developer Productivity, Developer Experience, or Platform Infrastructure teams Familiarity with pre-release OS, SDK, or toolchain validation in large organizations Experience designing standardized development environments for multi-team organizations Knowledge of test frameworks, linting tools, and static analysis systems Experience supporting large monorepos or complex dependency graphs Strong documentation and technical communication skills Experience improving onboarding workflows and reducing time-to-productivity for new engineers
