Description
Description Ascentec Engineering, a precision manufacturing company headquartered in Tualatin, Oregon, with manufacturing sites and offices across the US, Southeast Asia, and India is seeking a Software Engineer -- Business Process Automation. We machine metal and assemble subcomponents for semiconductor equipment manufacturers and commercial aerospace customers. Our work demands tight tolerances and reliable processes — and that same standard applies to how we run the business behind the shop floor. We're building out a small team focused on improving how the company operates through better software, smarter automation, and modern tooling. This is a ground-floor opportunity to help shape that effort. We're looking for someone to help us map, improve, and automate business processes across our operations — from supply chain and purchasing to customer service and order management. You'll work closely with the Head of Applied AI & Enterprise Applications to build integrations, internal tools, and workflow automation that directly impacts how the company runs day-to-day. This isn't a role where you'll be writing code in isolation. You'll need to understand how the business works, talk to the people who use our systems, and figure out where software can make a real difference. Some of what you build will involve AI and large language models. Some of it will be a well-designed script or a straightforward integration. The goal is solving the problem, not using any particular technology for its own sake. We provide AI-assisted development tools like Claude Code and will invest in training you to use them effectively. These tools can dramatically improve your output — but quality still matters. You'll be expected to review what you ship and maintain clean, well-architected code. If you're the kind of engineer who likes understanding the "why" behind what you're building and takes satisfaction in making complicated processes simpler, this is a good fit. This position is at our Tualatin, Oregon headquarters and is not eligible for Visa sponsorship or transfer of Visa sponsorship. Requirements What You'll Work On: Building integrations between business systems (ERP, scheduling, purchasing) to reduce manual work and catch issues early Collaborating closely with our software engineering team in India, who build many of our current applications and automations — you'll be working across shared codebases, data sources, and project plans Automating workflows in supply chain, order management, and procurement — flagging misalignments, shortages, and missing information before they become problems Developing internal web-based tools and dashboards that give teams better visibility into operations Working with AI and LLM-based tooling where it's the right fit for the problem Collaborating directly with operations, purchasing, and customer service teams to understand their processes and pain points Required Skills: Solid fundamentals in software engineering — you write clean, maintainable code and can reason about systems Experience with Python and web technologies (Node.js, TypeScript, React, or similar) Comfortable working with relational databases (MS SQL, PostgreSQL, or similar) Ability to work independently, manage your own priorities, and figure things out without detailed specs Genuine curiosity about how businesses operate and a desire to make things work better Interest in AI-assisted development — you don't need to be an expert, but you should be excited to learn and use these tools as part of your workflow Desired Skills: Experience with Linux, bash, and command-line tooling Familiarity with REST APIs and integration patterns Exposure to ERP systems, manufacturing, or supply chain operations Experience with AI/ML tooling, LLMs, or agent-based automation Software Engineering Degree preferred, but not required What We Offer: A small, high-ownership team where your work has visible, direct impact on the business Exposure to modern AI tooling and automation in a manufacturing environment — a combination that's hard to find elsewhere Advancement opportunities as the team and its scope expand Compensation / Benefits: $75,000 to $95,000 DOE Medical / Dental / Vision 401k with company match up to 4% Short-term and Long-term Disability Tuition Assistance or Reimbursement Life Insurance Paid time off / paid holidays Employee Assistance Programs Applicant must be able to pass a drug screen and criminal background check prior to employment. ITAR REQUIREMENTS: To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State. Learn more about the ITAR here. Responsibilities
You will map, improve, and automate business processes across operations including supply chain, purchasing, and order management. You will also develop internal web-based tools and integrations while collaborating with cross-functional teams to enhance operational efficiency.
