Company Description Sutherland is seeking a Software Engineer with deep expertise in EHR integration, modern front-end development, and AI-assisted engineering. In this role, you will design and build integration layers between clinical systems, develop React/TypeScript UI components and SDKs, and architect REST API data adapters that bridge legacy data models with modern JSON-schema-based APIs within an Azure cloud environment. Job Description Hands-on development of React/TypeScript widgets, SDKs, and cross-framework integration layers across clinical products Design and implement REST API data adapters that map between legacy relational data models and modern JSON-schema-based APIs Integrate with EHR platforms (TouchWorks, Epic, Cerner, or comparable ambulatory EHRs), with a focus on the note lifecycle: creation, signing, and amendment Architect and deploy solutions on Azure cloud services including App Services, Container Apps, Blob Storage, and Application Insights Use AI-assisted development tools (Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or equivalent) daily to accelerate delivery and review AI-generated code for correctness at speed Produce and maintain architecture documentation including sequence diagrams and C4 context diagrams (system-level architecture views) Collaborate with cross-functional teams to analyze requirements and translate them into technical specifications Identify and communicate potential risks and roadblocks on integration projects Lead cross-functional integration efforts, ensuring alignment between engineering, product, and business goals Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent experience 5+ years of hands-on software development experience Strong proficiency in React and TypeScript; experience with widget/SDK integration and cross-framework communication EHR or clinical software integration experience – TouchWorks, Epic, Cerner, or a comparable ambulatory EHR; understanding of the note lifecycle (creation, signing, amendment) is essential REST API data adapter design experience – mapping between legacy relational data models and modern JSON-schema-based APIs Azure cloud experience: App Services, Container Apps, Blob Storage, Application Insights AI-assisted development: daily use of Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or an equivalent agent – not occasional – and the ability to review AI-generated code for correctness at speed Architecture documentation skills: sequence diagrams, C4 context diagrams (system-level architecture views) Experience delivering products utilizing an Agile/Scrum framework Experience implementing code quality tools to reduce technical debt Additional Qualifications: Prior TouchWorks, Altera, or Allscripts product experience – existing TW domain knowledge compresses ramp time significantly Ambient documentation workflow knowledge FHIR R4 data model familiarity (DocumentReference, Composition resources) BigQuery or Azure Synapse analytics pipeline experience AI-driven development methodology – familiarity with directing agents vs. writing code Experience with HL7 and/or FHIR interoperability standards Hands-on experience building and deploying .NET Core applications in Linux environments using Docker-based containerization and modern CI/CD pipelines Core Competencies: Integration architecture thinking: you design for the seam between systems, not just the happy path Clinical domain empathy: you understand that a note save failure affects a real patient encounter AI agent direction: you can decompose a complex integration task into prompts that produce correct, testable code Documentation discipline: architecture is the source of truth; you contribute to it, not just consume it Additional Information All your information will be kept confidential according to EEO guidelines.
