SOFTWARE ENGINEER

COPE Health Solutions is seeking a Software Engineer to join our growing product engineering team, working on secure, scalable, and high-impact healthcare applications. Our core technology stack includes Java and .Net for backend development and React on the frontend. You’ll contribute to designing, building, and maintaining features that support real users and healthcare providers — all within a highly regulated environment that values quality and compliance. This is an ideal role for someone with a few years of professional experience who’s eager to develop their technical skills, collaborate with experienced engineers, and work on products that make a difference.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

  • Develop, test, and maintain backend services using Java (Spring Boot or similar).
  • Build responsive, accessible web interfaces using React.js.
  • Participate in planning, implementation, code reviews, and retrospectives as part of an agile team.
  • Collaborate closely with product managers, designers, QA, and DevOps to deliver features end-to-end.
  • Write clean, maintainable code and contribute to improving code quality through testing and documentation.
  • Help troubleshoot bugs, support production issues, and contribute to root cause analysis.
  • Follow secure software development practices and assist in meeting healthcare compliance standards (HIPAA, HiTrust).
  • Contribute to and learn from CI/CD processes, infrastructure, and deployment workflows.

Required Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in computer science, computer engineering, informatics, management information systems or STEM discipline strongly preferred
  • 2–4 years of professional software engineering experience.
  • Hands-on experience with Java (Spring Boot preferred) for backend development.
  • Working knowledge of React.js or similar modern frontend frameworks.
  • Understanding of RESTful APIs, relational databases (e.g. SQL Server), and basic DevOps concepts.
  • Familiarity with agile development practices, version control (Git), and basic CI/CD workflows.
  • Interest in building secure and compliant systems in regulated environments (healthcare experience is a plus).
  • Solid communication skills and a willingness to collaborate and learn.
  • High attention to detail with ability to adapt and be flexible in a complex, changing environment
  • A willing, effective, and efficient learner; willingness to receive feedback and take direction
  • Ability to work remotely and travel occasionally for team meetings

Preferred:

  • Experience with containerized deployments (Docker, Kubernetes) and cloud platforms (preferably Azure).
  • Knowledge of healthcare data standards (e.g., HL7, FHIR, X12).
  • Exposure to identity and access management (OAuth2, OpenID Connect, SSO).
  • Hand on experience leveraging AI tools to improve efficiencies in the engineering process.
  • Experience with .Net APIs a definite advantage.
