Job Title: Software Engineer Location: Falls Church, VA (Hybrid – 2–3 days per month onsite) Clearance: Active DoD Secret Clearance (or higher) Employment Type: Full-time About the Role: Rackner is seeking a Software Engineer to join our team supporting the Defense Health Agency (DHA). In this role, you’ll design and build APIs, data pipelines, and healthcare data integration services in AWS GovCloud. You’ll work with FHIR/OMOP standards, secure cloud-native architectures, and unstructured/structured data pipelines to modernize military healthcare interoperability. Who You Are: 5+ years of professional experience in software engineering Strong programming skills in Python, Java, or C# Experience developing and deploying REST APIs (FastAPI, Lambda, or similar) Familiarity with federal compliance frameworks (NIST 800-53, HIPAA, FISMA High) Experience with data pipelines (Airflow, dbt, Spark, or equivalent) Prefer if you also have: Prior experience with DHA, VA, or other federal healthcare IT programs Familiarity with healthcare data standards (FHIR, OMOP, HL7, CDA) Exposure to DoD Modular Open Systems Approach (MOSA) Experience with AI/ML workflows, NLP, or OCR for healthcare data Knowledge of secure deployments in AWS GovCloud (IL5/IL6) What You’ll Do: Develop secure APIs using FastAPI, AWS Lambda, and OpenAPI standards Build and maintain data pipelines using dbt, Apache Airflow, Apache Spark, and Apache Iceberg Normalize healthcare data into FHIR and OMOP standards Integrate structured/unstructured data sources (HL7, CDA, JSON, logs, PDFs, images) Collaborate with DevSecOps engineers to deploy applications in secure cloud environments Who We Are: Rackner is a software consultancy that builds cloud-native solutions for startups, enterprises, and the public sector.
