Your role

Scento operates its own shop on Next.js and its own commerce backend on Medusa, Node.js, TypeScript and PostgreSQL, along with a custom-built checkout on Stripe. This platform facilitates the sale of perfume samples, seasonal products such as the perfume advent calendar, and gift sets throughout Europe.

As a Staff Engineer, you shape the architecture. You set technical standards, ensure fast page loading times and reliable payment processing, and raise the level of the entire engineering team. Success means: We deliver faster, the platform remains stable as traffic increases, and the best product and growth ideas go live seamlessly.

Your tasks

• You will design the architecture of Scentos Commerce platform: Next.js storefront and Medusa backend on PostgreSQL.
• You will build and harden our own checkout with Stripe, including multiple currencies and languages.
• You lead in performance (Core Web Vitals), reliability, observability, and security.
• You set engineering standards, review code, and support other engineers in their daily work.
• You work directly with product, growth, and operations on features with a big impact.
• You make pragmatic decisions between speed and sustainability, and you make your considerations transparent for everyone.

Your profile

• At least 10 years of experience with production web systems, several of them at staff or principal level.
• Expert knowledge in TypeScript, React and Next.js as well as sound knowledge in Node.js and PostgreSQL.
• Experience with payments, headless commerce, or high-traffic e-commerce.
• Fluent in English.
