Who we are

Avreo is a small, Sydney-based consultancy delivering complex software and AI projects.

We do not build brochure websites or spend months moving tickets across a board. We work with clients on real operational problems: understanding what is actually going wrong, breaking the problem into manageable parts, and building software that improves how the business works.

Our projects vary significantly. You may be building a product, integrating systems, automating a workflow, prototyping an AI capability or working out whether AI is even the right solution.

You will work closely with experienced engineers, including people who have worked at Google and Atlassian. There are no large delivery pyramids, layers of management or narrowly defined roles. You will see how decisions are made and contribute directly to the outcome.

Why join us, avreo

We are working on cool problems our team loves solving. Not multi-year bank-transformation projects, but things we can deliver within months and be proud of.

You will get exposure to varied, non-trivial projects and work directly with experienced people.

You will have the opportunity to develop both your engineering skills and your ability to solve broader business problems.

You will be expected to think, ask questions and contribute, not simply complete assigned tickets.

This is a strong environment for an engineer who is early in their career, technically curious and motivated by difficult problems.

Who we are looking for

A software engineering degree, with strong fundamentals and a problem-solving mindset.

You may be a graduate, or you may have several years of professional experience. We care less about the number of years on your CV than how you think, communicate and approach unfamiliar problems.

You should be able to:

  • Look at an idea or product and see what’s good or bad about it.
  • Take a loosely defined real-world problem and turn it into a practical technical approach.
  • Break complex work into smaller, testable steps.
  • Communicate your reasoning clearly with engineers, clients and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Write clean, maintainable code across the front end and back end.
  • Learn unfamiliar systems and technologies without needing every step prescribed.
  • Balance speed, quality and pragmatism.
  • Take ownership of a problem rather than waiting for a perfectly specified ticket.
  • You are interested in technology beyond simply knowing the latest libraries. We value engineers who want to understand how systems work, why a tool behaves the way it does, and when not to use it.

Your experience with AI

You should already be using modern AI tools in a meaningful way. This could include tools such as Codex, Claude, ChatGPT, pi or similar products for coding, research, exploration and problem solving.

However, you do not need to have built a production RAG platform, multi-agent system or complex AI infrastructure.

What you will work on

Our current work often includes Python, React, Laravel, cloud platforms (GCP, Azure, AWS) and large language model APIs, but we do not expect candidates to arrive knowing our exact stack.

Depending on the project, you may:

  • Create AI agents to help speed up messy human workflows.
  • Build web applications and internal tools.
  • Build AI-assisted workflows and product features.
  • Prototype possible solutions before committing to a larger build.
  • Work with clients to clarify ambiguous requirements.
  • Deploy and operate applications in cloud environments.

This role is probably NOT for you if

  • You are not using AI tools or against using AI.
  • You prefer tasks to arrive as a detailed ticket with a predetermined solution.
  • You are more excited about the frameworks than understanding their fundamentals and what problems they solve.
  • You are comfortable producing code you cannot explain or validate.
  • You don’t like communicating with clients or non-technical people.
  • You prefer to work exclusively within one part of the technology stack.
  • You prefer very structured environments where responsibility is clearly divided across teams.

Send us your resume, and your academic transcript. We don’t need cover letters.
