As a Software Engineer II, you’ll be part of a backend engineering team building and evolving the services and APIs that power Axon’s software experiences. You’ll help design and deliver reliable, secure, and scalable systems that support real-world public safety workflows, from real-time operations to reporting and analytics. You’ll work closely with other engineers, product managers, designers, and data/AI specialists to turn complex requirements into simple, robust solutions that people can depend on every day. Work Location Work Location: This role is based out of our London office and follows a hybrid schedule. We rely on in-person collaboration and ask that team members work onsite Tuesdays through Fridays, with the flexibility to work remotely on Mondays, unless there is an approved workplace accommodation. What You’ll Do Design, build, and maintain backend services that support Axon’s product experiences across multiple surfaces and use cases. Participate in architecture and design discussions focused on scalability, availability, performance, and reliability. Write clean, well-tested production code (C#, Java, Go, Node, Python, or similar) and participate in regular code reviews and design sessions. Collaborate with product, design, and other engineering teams to deliver features that are observable, measurable, and aligned with customer outcomes. Participate in sprint planning, incident response, and retrospectives to help the team deliver consistently and improve over time. Own features end-to-end — from technical design and implementation to deployment, monitoring, and ongoing operation in production. Bring a quality-first mindset, balancing delivery speed with maintainability, security, and operational excellence. What You Bring 3+ years of professional software engineering experience in backend or full-stack roles. Solid hands-on experience with backend languages such as C#, Java, Go, Node, Python, or similar. Strong understanding of distributed systems, REST APIs, and cloud-native application patterns. Familiarity with SQL and/or NoSQL data stores, caching, and event-driven or message-based architectures. Ability to reason about performance, reliability, and fault tolerance in production systems. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across disciplines in a modern software development workflow (version control, CI/CD, code review, observability). Nice to Have Experience working with or integrating data-intensive, AI/ML, or LLM-powered features in production environments. Knowledge of real-time systems, messaging queues, streaming platforms, or edge–cloud architectures. Exposure to monitoring, logging, and observability tooling (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog).
