SUMMARY

Forge Nano Inc. is a fast-growing materials company with a focus on manufacturing nano-scale coatings across a wide range of markets. Forge Nano is seeking a Software Engineer II to join their Engineering Design and Manufacturing Team, reporting to the Senior Electrical Engineer. This position will focus on developing the automation, logic, and User Interfaces for their Semiconductor ALD Production Equipment.
Key responsibilities include working in several different programming paradigms including user displays, database management, and control logic. This role requires a detailed oriented individual who is comfortable working with an interdisciplinary engineering team.
Skills and Responsibilities

The Software Engineer may be responsible for tasks and skills such as (non-exhaustive):

  • Expertise in C# .NET development for backend architecture and front-end Graphical User Interfaces (GUI) developed using Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF)
  • Interfacing with and integrating control logic (TwinCAT structured text, based on OOP) using IEC 61131-3 approved languages
  • Designing GUIs and HMIs to SEMI E-95 Standard
  • Integrating communication drivers across various robotics interfaces
  • Working in cross-functional teams by leading design review meetings to solicit user feedback on Interfaces or Control Schemes
  • Specifying and configuring industrial communication protocols such as Ethernet/IP, EtherCAT, IO-Link, etc. Integrating SECS/GEM protocol for facility integration of production equipment
  • Familiar with computer networks, protocols including TCP and UDP, designing and configuration of various network architecture topologies
  • Commissioning and start-up of automated systems at Forge Nano’s HQ and at customer facilities
  • Configuring controls instrumentation for appropriate data exchange and logging
  • Generate, revise, and review software requirements, designs, test plans, and other software documentation
  • Managing version and release history and developing robust workflows for software deployment
  • Researching and incorporating cutting-edge Semiconductor software design principles
  • Mentorship of junior engineers

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Industrial Automation, Electrical Engineering, or similar
  • 2 - 5 years of technical controls programming experience
  • Professional experience supporting new product development for physical hardware in laboratory, research, or industry settings is required
  • Experience with C-style programming languages, C# preferred
  • Strong teamwork, communication, problem-solving, creativity, and attention to detail
  • Experience working in an Agile development environment and/or teams
  • Experience with Git or other version control systems

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with controls architecture using Beckhoff TwinCAT
  • Experience with Wrike / Jira and additional CI/CD tooling
  • Experience with plasma or thermal ALD/CVD systems and semiconductor system operations
  • Experience handling chemicals or hazardous materials in a laboratory or industrial settings
  • Understanding of SEMI standards and applicable design requirements
