Responsibilities The Software Engineer II are responsible for the following: Design, develop, and maintain robust, scalable, and secure software solutions for AI-powered products and services within MCAPS. Collaborate with cross-functional teams—including product managers, data scientists, data engineers and UX designers—to deliver end-to-end features from concept to production. Participate in code reviews, architecture discussions, and contribute to engineering best practices. Drive continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to optimize performance, reliability, and developer productivity. Write well-documented, high-quality, and maintainable code. Ensure solutions adhere to Microsoft’s Responsible AI principles, compliance, and security standards. Engage in agile development processes, including sprint planning, backlog grooming, and regular team syncs. Contribute to a culture of inclusion, innovation, and technical excellence within the AIT organization. Other Embody our culture and values Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience. Experience in at least one or more of the following modern programming languages: Python, Spark, C#, Java, TypeScript. Knowledge of LLMs and Azure AI stack / services including Foundry and Copilot Studio. Preferred Qualifications Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 3+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 5+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience. 2+ years experience within programming & development: proficiency in Python and command of related libraries and frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch,, Scikit-Learn, Hugging Face Transformers, LangChain, and similar. 2+ years experience within model deployment & operations: experience deploying agents in Azure cloud environments, with familiarity in containerization, continuous integration/continuous development pipelines and model monitoring. 2+ years experience within AI knowledge. Specifically theoretical and practical knowledge of LLMs, Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) pipelines and agent orchestration frameworks. 1+ years experience within agent communication & protocols: Experience designing and implementing multi-agent systems using communication protocols such as MCP or similar. Knowledge of security, compliance, and Responsible AI principles in software development. Use of AI and familiarity with Claude, GitHub Copilot for code generation. Software Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $100,600 - $199,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $131,400 - $215,400 per year.
