We are looking for a passionate Backend Software Engineer to join our team that manages Wayfair's core messaging infrastructure. Our team is responsible for the health, scalability, and evolution of our centralized Kafka platform, which powers critical, real-time data movement across the entire company. In this role, you will play a crucial part in evolving the fundamental services that underpin Wayfair's entire e-commerce ecosystem. You will be responsible for building highly resilient, high-performance systems and developing tooling that empowers all engineering teams to leverage our messaging platform with greater autonomy and efficiency. This is a unique opportunity to work on foundational technology that directly impacts the scalability and reliability of the company, and you will drive the next generation of self-service capabilities and operational excellence for our platform. What You’ll Do: Partner with your business stakeholders to provide them with transparency, data, and resources to make informed decisions. Be a technical leader within and across the teams you work with. Drive architectural decisions and hands-on development for high-throughput, real-time messaging systems. Obsessively focus on production readiness for the team including testing, monitoring, deployment, documentation and proactive troubleshooting. Identify risks and gaps in technical approaches and propose solutions to meet team and project goals. Create proposals and action plans to garner support across the organization. Influence and contribute to the team’s strategy and roadmap. A tenacity for learning and a strong curiosity for evolving distributed systems and messaging paradigms. We Are a Match Because You Have: 3-5 years of experience in backend software engineering, with a focus on designing and building high-performance, distributed systems. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience Track-record of technical leadership for teams following software development best practices (e.g. SOLID, TDD, GRASP, YAGNI, etc). Track-record of being a hands-on developer efficiently building technically sound systems. Experience building systems with Java, Springboot, Python, Terraform Experience with Continuous Integration (CI/CD) practices and tools (Buildkite, Jenkins, etc.). Experience architecting solutions leveraging distributed infrastructure (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes, etc). Experience with Google Cloud Platform, Aerospike, Redis.
