Overview:
GitHub is changing the way the world builds software and we want you to help build and secure GitHub. We’re looking for an experienced software engineer to help build and maintain our internal tooling, data and infrastructure as they protect the home of all developers.
You will be responsible for maintaining, developing, testing and deploying internal tooling to ensure compliance with regulations and accreditations such as GDPR, DSA and FEDRAMP. At GitHub, Compliance Engineering’s mission is to enable GitHub to meet compliance obligations through technology. This team ensures that for every compliance requirement (whether a legal mandate or internal policy) there is a corresponding set of technical capabilities in place to enable compliance that is maintained, measured, and updated to comply with the latest regulations.
If you have a foundation in compliance, privacy or data governance, skills in software engineering, and an empathetic approach to mentoring and collaborating with a diverse team from entry-level associates to seasoned senior contributors then this might be the gig for you.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 4+ years experience in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical discipline with proven experience maintaining and delivering production software languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, JavaScript, Go, Ruby, Rust, or Python
  • OR Associate’s Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Math, Physics, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field AND 3+ years experience
  • OR Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, or related field AND 2+ years experience in Computer Science, or related technical discipline with proven experience coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, JavaScript, Go, Ruby, Rust, or Python
  • OR Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Math, Physics, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
  • OR equivalent experience.
  • 1+ years of practical, hands-on experience deploying and managing applications on Kubernetes in a production environment.
  • 1+ years experience translating and implementing compliance, privacy, or data governance requirements (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, FedRAMP) into scalable technical solutions, collaborating with cross-functional partners in Risk, Trust & Safety, Compliance, and CELA.
  • 1+ years of enterprise experience with audit systems, including implementing robust logging, monitoring, access controls, and documentation processes to meet ongoing regulatory and certification requirements.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in compliance, privacy or data governance engineering.
  • Experience with GDPR, CCPA, FedRamp, ISO certification compliance frameworks.
  • A passion for fostering good engineering practices, tools, and processes.
  • Experience in Machine Learning.
  • Experience in DevOps.
  • Experience with AI products.
  • Experience contributing to open-source projects.
    Compensation Range: The base salary range for this job is USD $97,900.00 - USD $259,900.00 /Yr.
    These pay ranges are intended to cover roles based across the United States. An individual’s base pay depends on various factors including geographical location and review of experience, knowledge, skills, abilities of the applicant. At GitHub certain roles are eligible for benefits and additional rewards, including annual bonus and stock. These rewards are allocated based on individual impact in role. In addition, certain roles also have the opportunity to earn sales incentives based on revenue or utilization, depending on the terms of the plan and the employee’s role.
