About CORTO

We are CORTO, a cutting-edge software company dedicated to revolutionising the legal industry. Our mission is to empower legal practitioners with AI-driven solutions that streamline their workflow, boost productivity, and provide more efficient client service.

Our team of AI experts and engineers collaborate to develop intelligent software tailored to the unique needs of lawyers, paralegals, and legal assistants. Our innovative AI solutions automate routine tasks, simplify document management, and enhance decision-making, allowing legal professionals to focus on what they do best—providing expert legal counsel.

We’re rapidly scaling from 80 to 250+ employees, with a highly technical workforce where around 75% of the team are developers and engineers. Working alongside our Sydney-based team of passionate high achievers, you’ll join a fast-growing technology business where things rarely stay the same for long - and if you’re smart, caring, and ambitious, you’ll be in great company.

What you’ll do

We are looking for a talented Software Engineer to join our AI and Automation Team. In this role, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining the APIs that power document ingestion and integrations of our Core AI platform at CORTO.

To make this happen you will

This is an incredible opportunity to be part of an engineering team building the next generation of our products. The day to day will include:

  • Designing, developing, and maintaining multiple microservices central to document ingestion and integrations.
  • Maintaining and enhancing Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) pipelines that connect enterprise knowledge sources with Large Language Models (LLMs).
  • Building and managing scalable cloud infrastructure (utilizing serverless compute, event queues, managed containers, and NoSQL/relational storage).
  • Optimising code and system architecture for performance, scalability, and maintainability.
  • Participating in code reviews and providing constructive feedback.
  • Working closely with cross-functional teams to understand requirements and deliver efficient solutions.

What you’ll bring

You are a focused, motivated and hard-working developer who wants to join a fantastic growing team at a critical time and learn on the job to expand your skills. In addition to that you will bring:

  • Experience: Hands-on software engineering experience building RESTful APIs and production-grade software.
  • Tech Stack Agnostic Mindset: Strong foundation in at least one modern backend programming language (e.g., C#, Python, Java, Go, or Node.js) and a willingness to learn new technologies as required by the business.
  • Architecture & Distributed Systems: Solid understanding of software architecture, event-driven designs, and microservices.
  • Database Knowledge: Experience with relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MS SQL) and NoSQL or key-value stores (e.g., DynamoDB, Redis).
  • Cloud Infrastructure: Exposure to major cloud computing platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
  • AI-Assisted Workflows: Experience with or interest in using AI coding assistants (e.g., Claude Code, GitHub Copilot) to accelerate development.

You are the type of person who

  • Able to work autonomously and take ownership of parts of the product
  • Has analytical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Proactive in chasing leads to resolve dependencies
  • Has a positive attitude – things might not always go as expected but we maintain optimism and win, nonetheless
  • Ability to think outside the box – not all our tasks are standard so neither are the solutions
  • Being a team player – we reach our goals together and help each other to succeed. We have a strict no-ego, no-blame culture with intense focus on getting things done
  • Relentless urge to get things done
