JOB SUMMARY:

We are seeking a mission-driven Senior Software Engineer to support digital modernization efforts within the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). In this role, you will help architect, develop, and maintain secure, scalable applications that enhance healthcare, benefits access, and services for our nation’s veterans.
As a key member of a cross-functional Agile development team, you will work with modern technologies to build and optimize enterprise-grade applications using the Microsoft .NET ecosystem, microservices architecture, and front-end frameworks like Angular. Your work will directly support federal initiatives aimed at improving outcomes for millions of veterans and their families.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 6+ years of software engineering experience with .NET technologies.
  • Strong proficiency in C#, ASP.NET Core, and SQL Server.
  • Experience with Angular (version 8+) for front-end development.
  • Solid understanding of microservices architecture and API development (RESTful services).
  • Experience with GitHub for version control and collaboration.
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies and sprint-based development cycles.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance (or higher, as required).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience working within the Department of Veterans Affairs or other federal health IT programs.
  • Knowledge of federal IT compliance and security standards (e.g., FISMA, Section 508).
  • Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker and orchestration tools like Kubernetes.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., Azure, AWS) and infrastructure-as-code concepts.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable software applications using .NET (C#), Angular, and SQL Server.
  • Implement and support microservices-based architectures in cloud and on-premise environments.
  • Collaborate with product owners, business analysts, and other engineers to define and refine technical requirements.
  • Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code following secure coding practices and federal compliance standards.
  • Conduct code reviews, mentor junior developers, and contribute to continuous improvement of development processes.
  • Use GitHub for source control and CI/CD pipeline integration.
  • Ensure high performance and availability of applications in production environments.
  • Support testing, troubleshooting, and deployment activities in a DevSecOps environment.
