ABOUT THE CLIENTAn early stage company in Dublin using AI in the life sciences.

Their platform helps decide which drug programmes are worth pursuing and where to point them, before large sums get committed to trials. It is a data heavy problem involving very large scientific datasets and modelling work, and the platform sits between that data and the people making the decisions.

Small team, heavily credentialed, backed by senior figures from industry and by technology leaders. Live commercial partnerships already running.

THE ROLE, FOUNDING SOFTWARE ENGINEERThis is the first dedicated software engineering hire. You will work directly with the CTO, taking work straight off him and owning the platform as it is built.

React on the front end, Python and AWS on the back end and data layer. The platform handles sensitive patient and research data, so building it securely and being conscious of how that data is handled is a real part of the job rather than an afterthought.

There is no legacy platform to inherit. The architecture decisions are still open.

They are looking for someone who has built things from scratch rather than maintained someone else's system. Startup experience matters more than a recognisable logo. The phrase the founders use is that they want someone who built the button rather than someone who pushed it.

Attitude is screened as hard as the stack. They want energy, appetite and someone who will argue back constructively. On a team this size, one wrong hire is felt by everyone, and they are open about protecting that.

• KEY RESPONSIBILITIESBuild the platform front end through to back end alongside the CTO
• Build the React front end for a technical, scientific user base
• Design and build back end services and data pipelines in Python on AWS
• Make architecture decisions on a product still early enough to shape
• Build with security and sensitive data handling designed in from the start
• Work directly with scientific and research colleagues to turn their work into product

• ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCEStrong commercial Python
• React in production
• AWS in production
• Startup or early stage experience, ideally as an early engineer
• Evidence of having built something end to end rather than contributed to an existing platform

• DESIRABLE, NOT ESSENTIALSecurity background, whether application, cloud or data governance
• Experience with sensitive, regulated or healthcare data
• Scientific computing, research tooling or data heavy platforms
• Working alongside researchers or scientists
• Familiarity with AI coding tools in a working environment
