Responsibilities

THE ROLE

As a frontend-focused Software Engineer on the Volsung team, you’ll play a key role in shaping the future of clean energy by creating intuitive, high-performance interfaces for our world-leading geothermal simulation tools. Volsung is Seequent’s flagship geothermal modelling platform, combining reservoir, wellbore and surface network simulation into one powerful yet user-friendly environment.
You’ll take complex scientific and engineering workflows (such as Monte Carlo forecasting and inverse modelling) and transform them into clear, accessible and user-friendly experiences for geothermal engineers across the globe. Your work will bridge technical sophistication and usability, collaborating closely with geoscientists, product experts and backend engineers to deliver solutions that feel effortless to use, even when the science is anything but.
This is a rare opportunity to contribute to a product that supports the global shift to low-carbon energy, while deepening your expertise in frontend frameworks, data-rich visualization and performant applications. You’ll also gain exposure to areas like GPU acceleration and scientific computing; bringing a truly end-to-end understanding of how transformative software is made.

IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO:

  • Contribute to the design and development of high-performance simulation features.
  • Investigate and resolve performance bottlenecks and technical issues across Linux and Windows environments.
  • Participate in code reviews, testing, and CI/CD pipeline improvements to ensure code quality and reliability.
  • Work with frameworks and libraries like Qt, VTK, CMake and CUDA.
  • Actively participate in technical decisions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate geoscientific requirements into elegant, production-grade software solutions.

TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THIS ROLE, YOU SHOULD HAVE:

  • 5+ years working in relevant Software Engineering roles.
  • Strong proficiency in C++.
  • Working knowledge of Python.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD Pipelines and DevOps practices.
  • Frameworks & Libs: Qt, VTK, CMake, CUDA.
  • Comfortable developing on both Linux and Windows.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or equivalent.

Bonus skills that would be an advantage:

  • Strong mathematical background.
  • Some knowledge of physics concepts.
  • Understanding of automated run management and compute service integration.
