Description

In this role, you will be responsible for software development and integration activities for the Positive Train Control (PTC) Communication System serving North American railroads’ applications and/or related tools and systems. This includes software development activities consisting of application design, development, testing, and the creation of test/deployment tools and documentation. It also includes hands-on environment setup, development, issue triage, and debugging tasks necessary to create and maintain an on-site expertise in our application systems. The software applications and tools use a variety of languages including C and C++ as well as alternate languages such as Golang or other scripting languages. The majority of our software is targeted to run on Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) platforms.

MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Masters or Bachelors Degree with additional experience, preferably in Computer Science, Engineering or related field, or equivalent applicable experience.
  • 9 or more years of experience in application development.
  • 3 or more years in a developer level technical leadership role
  • 2 or more years of direct customer-facing operational support

    Compensation:
    The pay range for this position is $122,039 - 158,651 - 195,262. In addition, there is a potential yearly bonus at 10% of base salary.
    This is a hybrid position based in Renton WA. Our current hybrid schedule requires working onsite Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday each week.

Responsibilities
  • Technical Leadership Requirements:
  • Provides technical leadership to other team members and motivation through teamwork
  • Guide other engineers in good product design, coding practices, and security
  • Works with minimal supervision or guidance.
  • Expected to consult with Principal engineers in multiple technologies and management appropriately on key decision points.
  • Technical Contribution
  • Ability and interest to learn the industry, technology stack, and enterprise-to-edge messaging protocols and operational environments
  • Ability and interest to learn and perform RedHat Linux package customization along with enhancement of applications, hardware interfaces (example GPIO), and multi-node networked solutions
  • Ability and interest to learn and understand custom hardware devices as operational platforms for our software. Be actively involved with our development lab environment.
  • Responsible for application enhancements requiring design, development, and support of applications already in production.
  • Work closely with product and engineering management to refine product vision and design solutions.
  • Provides guidance in unit testing and other forms of testing and debugging.

  • Conceptualize original ideas to bring simplicity to a complex product design.
  • Guide support for sustainment of software currently in production.
  • Present and defend technical recommendations to peers, management, and stakeholders.
