Responsibilities

ABOUT THE TEAM / ROLE:

As a Software Engineer on our Agile DevOps team, you’ll play a critical role in powering Comcast’s Video On Demand (VOD) ingest systems—responsible for processing all VOD content across Comcast and our external partners. It’s an exciting time to join us: we’ve recently migrated to a unified, cloud-based platform that streamlines the ingest, processing, and distribution of video and advertising assets at scale.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

In this role, you’ll contribute to designing, building, and optimizing systems that are central to how millions of customers access video content. You’ll work alongside top engineering talent to roll out robust, scalable solutions that support both current and next-generation video platforms. Your work will directly impact the time it takes to deliver new features to market, improve platform resiliency, and eliminate customer-facing issues.
Some of the key challenges you’ll help solve include scaling VOD ingest platforms to handle millions of video and ad files, transforming metadata to support Comcast’s X1 platform and partner needs, and building pipelines to transcode, encrypt, package, and distribute video content. You’ll also have opportunities to work directly with external customers to enable service syndication and content origination.
This is a great opportunity for an experienced engineer looking to deepen their impact, grow within a high-performing DevOps culture, and help shape the future of video delivery at Comcast.

  • Researches, writes and edits documentation and technical requirements, including software designs, evaluation plans, test results, technical manuals and formal recommendations and reports.
  • Monitors and evaluates competitive applications and products. Reviews literature, patents and current practices relevant to the solution of assigned projects.
  • Provides technical leadership throughout the design process and guidance with regards to practices, procedures and techniques. Serves as a guide and mentor for junior-level Software Development Engineers.
  • Works with Quality Assurance team to determine if applications fit specification and technical requirements.
  • Displays in-depth knowledge of engineering methodologies, concepts, skills and their application in specified engineering specialty.
  • Displays in-depth knowledge of and ability to apply, process design and redesign skills. Presents and defends architectural, design and technical choices to internal audiences.
  • Displays knowledge of and ability to apply, project management skills.
  • Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance.
  • Regular, consistent and punctual attendance. Must be able to work nights and weekends, variable schedule(s) and overtime as necessary.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
