Description
Overview Microsoft 365 Copilot is a groundbreaking productivity tool that leverages the power of large language models, user data, Microsoft Graph, and the web to drive unparalleled creativity and productivity. At the heart of this innovation is the Office AI team, which plays a crucial role in the development of Copilot experiences across M365 and an expanding list of partners across Microsoft. We own the infrastructure that enables complex orchestration of M365 Copilot workflows to put powerful AI capabilities at the user’s fingertips, as well as the chat user experience and horizontal skills, and extends across Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, and an expanding list of partners across Microsoft. As a Software Engineer on the Office AI Platform team, you’ll build and improve production systems that sit at the heart of Copilot, powering workflows used by millions of people every day. You’ll contribute to the platform components that orchestrate AI driven experiences across Microsoft 365, writing code that runs at global scale, is highly observable, and directly shapes customer experience. You’ll take on well scoped engineering work focused on reliability, performance, and platform evolution, collaborating closely with senior engineers to ship features, fix issues, and strengthen core systems. This role is a great fit for early career engineers who want to grow quickly while working on real systems at Microsoft scale. Microsoft’s mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. As employees we come together with a growth mindset, innovate to empower others, and collaborate to realize our shared goals. Each day we build on our values of respect, integrity, and accountability to create a culture of inclusion where everyone can thrive at work and beyond. Responsibilities Build and ship features that are part of Office AI’s core platform, contributing code that runs in high‑scale, latency‑sensitive production systems. Work closely with senior engineers to implement well scoped improvements across services, APIs, and platform components. Learn how distributed systems behave in the real world by debugging live issues, analyzing telemetry, and understanding failure modes. Write clean, high‑quality code in C#, TypeScript, or JavaScript that meets Microsoft’s standards for reliability, security, and performance. Add logging, metrics, and alerts so your code is observable, debuggable, and resilient in production. Contribute tests and CI pipelines that help keep Copilot reliable as the platform evolves rapidly. Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and post‑incident learning to grow your engineering judgment. Gain hands‑on exposure to AI‑powered systems, platform authentication, and service‑to‑service communication patterns at Microsoft scale. Qualifications Required Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline with proven experience coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience. Basic understanding of data structures, algorithms, software engineering fundamentals and Distributed System Design. Preferred Qualifications: Internship or project experience building backend services, APIs, or client‑server applications. Familiarity with testing practices, CI/CD pipelines, or cloud‑hosted services. Exposure to distributed systems, telemetry, or debugging production systems. Curiosity about AI‑powered applications, large‑scale platforms, or developer tooling.
