Description
The company PTC is a multinational company specialized in software development and probably best known for Creo, previously known as Pro/Engineer. It's headquartered in Boston, the location of this internship. A few years back, PTC acquired Onshape, an eponymous local CAD product, and absorbed its management structure and staff. Working on Onshape still feels like working for that small company. The Product Onshape is an innovative CAD system conceived by industry experts looking to start over with modern technology for modern customers. They built a cloud system distributed across the globe accessible via web browser or iOS/Android clients. It supports real collaboration between engineers anywhere in the world without the saving of local files or their messy transfer. The team Onshape was founded by talented engineers, and many of them still work there to this day. You'd have the opportunity to gain experience from both old timers and newer hires who they've transferred experience to over the years. Your internship You will be working on the Part Studio team, responsible for the core modeling functionality at Onshape. From 2D sketching to advanced surfacing, it's the first thing a user sees when creating a new Onshape document. Our goal is to provide each intern a project that will visibly add new functionality to the end product. On your project, you will work the same way as a full-time engineer but with a mentor to guide you through the process. You'd work with UX and QA to define a specification, then develop your feature, go through a code review, and the release process. You You have experience in an object-oriented programming language like Java or C++. You have a solid understanding of basic data structures and their purposes. Understanding how to utilize them to optimize runtime complexity is critical for a compute heavy service. You have more than a passing interest in math. For an internship, more advanced concepts are optional, but having an intuitive understanding of trigonometry and vector algebra is not. Good communication skills are a must. You will need to communicate with UX designers using natural language as well as fellow developers in technical communications. Most importantly, you have a willingness to learn. Onshape uses a wide variety of technologies and languages. You will work on the client, on the server, with unusual components, and in Onshape's own scripting language that anyone can utilize to create their own features. You will have to pick up many of these skills over a short period of time. At PTC, we believe in the power of diverse ideas and perspectives. As a global company that values and respects all identities, cultures, and perspectives, we strive to create an inclusive PTC for ALL through an environment where everyone feels like they belong and are empowered to bring their true, authentic selves to work. Proud to be an Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action Employer, we welcome applicants from all backgrounds and hire without regard to race, national origin, religion, age, color, ethnicity, ancestry, marital status, sex (including pregnancy), sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, genetic identity, disability, veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by local, state, or federal laws, rules, or regulations.
