About the Role: We are looking for an experienced Software Engineering Manager — a strategic, hands-on leader who will own the foundational systems that power our products. You'll lead a highly skilled team of backend, infrastructure, and full-stack engineers focused on building scalable services, improving developer velocity, and enabling teams to deliver great customer experiences. The role is based in Austin,TX and requires you to work in our Austin office (currently close to UT Austin) 3 days per week. This role is both people and technology-focused: you’ll coach and grow engineers, while also guiding complex technical initiatives around micro-services architecture, distributed systems, infrastructure, and automation. What You'll Do: Team Leadership & People Management Lead, grow, and coach a highly competent engineering team Create a culture of accountability, ownership, and continuous learning Develop individualized growth plans; care deeply about career development Lead by example and be a role model of our values: Own process and outcomes, Be curious, Be a leader Technical Ownership Own the quality, architecture, and pace of delivery for the team Lead the design and development of scalable microservices and platform systems using technologies such as AWS, Node.js, and React Drive adoption of modern infrastructure: CI/CD, containerization, observability, and cloud services Lead architectural and code reviews across the platform organization Translate business and R&D initiatives into actionable technical requirements, choosing appropriate technologies and driving implementation Build systems that scale: distributed, real-time data pipelines for low-latency decisioning Focus on automation & tooling to reduce toil and improve engineering efficiency Cross-Team Collaboration Collaborate with product managers, architects, and stakeholders across teams to align priorities Maximize the team’s impact by ensuring clarity, focus, and execution Advocate for platform capabilities that unlock product and engineering velocity What We’re Looking For: Required Skills & Experience 12+ years of experience in software engineering, with a focus on backend systems and platform services 5+ years of experience leading high-performing engineering teams Expertise in a modern programming language such as Node.js Strong systems design background with deep experience in performance, scalability, and reliability Hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred), distributed systems, observability, and DevOps practices Strong fundamentals in computer science (algorithms, data structures, operating systems, networking) Proven success in mentoring engineers & delivering complex projects at scale Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to balance tradeoffs Strong communication skills — both verbal and written — and the ability to influence across disciplines Our Tech Stack Programming Languages: Mainly Typescript / Javascript, although sub systems use a variety of languages - Node.js, Typescript, React. Cloud & Infrastructure: AWS, Docker, Terraform, Jenkins Production Monitoring: Newrelic Database: Clickhouse, PostgreSQL Nice to Have Experience in cybersecurity, threat intelligence, or security-focused platforms Familiarity with front-end technologies (React) and full-stack engineering Experience building internal developer platforms or tools to improve productivity Prior work on high-scale systems handling large volumes of data Benefits: Specific to each country, we offer a competitive salary, stock options, Health benefits, and unlimited PTO, parental leave, tuition reimbursements, and much more! The estimated total compensation range for this position is $175,000 - $225,000 (base plus bonus). Actual compensation for the position is based on a variety of factors, including, but not limited to affordability, skills, qualifications and experience, and may vary from the range. In addition to base salary, employees may also be eligible for annual performance-based incentive compensation awards and equity, among other company benefits.
