Role: Software Engineering Manager, Robotics Location: Kharadi, Pune Life Unlimited. At Smith+Nephew, we design and manufacture technology that takes the limits off living. The Software Engineering Manager will serve as both a people manager and a technical lead, leading a team of software engineers while actively contributing to the design and development of the software codebase. This role blends strategic leadership with hands-on execution, ensuring the team delivers high quality, scalable solutions aligned with product and business objectives. The ideal candidate will mentor individual engineers, grow the team, establish best software practices, drive architectural decisions, and collaborate closely with cross-functional partners to deliver impactful software products. This position is well suited for someone energized by balancing people leadership with deep technical involvement and ownership of outcomes What will you be doing? Mentor Team Members: You will be a technical and career mentor to individual engineers, providing regular feedback, coaching, and performance guidance. You will help software engineers set professional development goals and provide opportunities to grow their skills and expand responsibilities. Drive Project Development: You will lead the planning, execution, and delivery of software engineering initiatives, ensuring alignment with company strategy, product requirements, and delivery timelines. Talent Hiring and Onboarding: You will collaborate with HR and recruiting to attract, interview, and hire top engineering talent. You will lead the onboarding for new team members, ensuring new hires ramp up efficiently and integrate smoothly into the team. Architecture Design and Implementation: You will design, implement, and review software architecture and code implementations, drive software architecture and feature design, and also establish and promote best practices for coding standards, design reviews, and technical documentation. Process Improvement: You will continuously assess the team’s workflows and tools to identify opportunities for improvement, reduce bottlenecks, improve delivery efficiency, and enhance overall engineering effectiveness. What will you need to be successful? Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field 5+ years of professional experience in design and implementation of complex software components. 1+ years of professional experience in leading software development as a manager, technical lead, or technical project lead. Strong programming skills in a compiled language such as C++. Excellent communication, problem-solving, and collaboration skills. Preferred skills include experience working with medical devices, image visualization tools and techniques, and algorithm development. You Unlimited.
