Who are We The Mobile Fulfilment Systems department at Ocado is at the forefront of developing cutting-edge automation solutions for both in-store and warehouse online order fulfilment. We leverage distributed backend systems, intuitive mobile applications, and advanced autonomous mobile robots to enable fast, scalable, and cost-effective order collection. Our scope spans mobile apps, backend microservices, workflow orchestration, integration APIs, and cloud-native components. All these drive the success of our flagship Chuck Autonomous Mobile Robot. The Platform team plays a mission-critical role in the success of OMRS - a globally deployed solution operating thousands of Chuck robots continuously in live environments. This team designs and develops integration solutions with WMS systems, delivers internal infrastructure and configuration tools, and builds human-facing UIs and E2E simulation systems, used by warehouse staff and support engineers. The Engineering Manager will ensure the team is high-performing, collaborative, and scalable, while making strong technical and architectural decisions aligned with long-term product and business needs. The role requires an individual who can inspire others, unblock teams, and move through complexity with speed and purpose. What You'll Be Doing People Management Lead, coach, and develop engineers across full-stack, backend, and Android domains. Understand strengths, development needs, and growth paths of every team member. Foster a supportive culture of accountability, learning, and psychological safety. Technical Leadership Own technical decisions, long-term design, and cross-service architecture. Set clear technical direction across systems, platforms, and interfaces. Make fast, practical decisions in high-pressure situations when needed. Stay close to system complexity and deeply understand the technologies in use. Business Awareness Drive business-aligned engineering execution with strong ROI and opportunity-cost thinking. Understand what truly matters to customers and stakeholders, and prioritize accordingly. Propose strategic and tactical options, explaining trade-offs clearly to all involved. Outcome Orientation Deliver reliable, intuitive tooling, interfaces, and mobile solutions for internal and external users. Full-stack technical depth with strong backend acumen (TypeScript, GraphQL, message-based systems). Excellent architectural and design decision-making skills, with a track record of long-term system thinking. Proven ability to lead under pressure and make fast, effective decisions in complex environments. Strong business awareness - able to connect technical choices with operational and financial impact. Nice to have: Experience with customer integration systems, observability tooling, and infrastructure management. Ability to clearly communicate trade-offs to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
