Description

ABOUT US:

Here at ThermalCyclones we are looking to completely disrupt and decarbonise the industrial heat space. We looking to scale our operation quickly with a mission to have a green impact on planet the scale of fusion or solar.
Industrial heat consumes 22% of the global energy and produces 20% of the world’s CO2, more than aviation and shipping combined. Most of this heat is created by gas/oil/coal powered steam boilers. Steam is the key to many manufacturing industries and industrial processes, yet today’s Industrial Heat Pumps cannot directly and easily replace steam boilers.
We’re developing a technology that replaces large industrial scale steam generators by spinning fluids fast, thus compressing them to transform heat, using heat pump-like technology. We are bringing together aerospace quality engineering and Formula One like R&D to push rotating structures to the limit to produce a technology that for the first time ever competes commercially with traditional steam generators, unlike electric boilers, or traditional heat pumps.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Embedded Systems, or a related field.
  • 2-5 years of experience in an R&D or electrical engineering role (entry-level candidates with strong academic backgrounds should still apply, we have multiple levels of roles to fill).
  • Proficiency in C/C++ for embedded systems; familiarity with Python or MATLAB for testing and automation.
  • Solid understanding of real-time systems, digital and analog circuit design, and control system fundamentals.
  • Familiarity with lab tools such as oscilloscopes, logic analysers, and signal generators.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS (WE’D LOVE TO SEE):

  • Experience with Linux systems
  • Experience with PCB design tools (e.g., Altium Designer, KiCad, Eagle) and schematic/layout best practices.
  • Knowledge of motor control (BLDC, PMSM, stepper) and/or power electronics.
  • Background in system modelling and control theory (e.g., PID, feedforward, model predictive control).
  • Experience with communication protocols (CAN – hardware, REST APIs - software).
  • Understanding of EMI/EMC compliance and safety standards (IEC, ISO, CE, UL).
  • Prior work with IoT systems.
  • Patent or publication record in electronics, embedded systems, or control.

Responsibilities

ABOUT THE ROLE:

We are seeking a talented and hands-on R&D Engineer with a strong background in electronics design, embedded software development, and control systems to join our multidisciplinary R&D team. You will be involved from concept to prototype and production, ensuring performance, safety, and scalability of control systems and electronics in complex, high-performance environments. You will work on groundbreaking technologies that aim to improve energy efficiency, performance, and sustainability across a range of industrial applications.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Design, prototype, and test custom electronics and sensors (PCBs, power electronics, signal conditioning circuits, etc.).
· Develop embedded firmware/software for microcontrollers, SoCs, or embedded Linux platforms (e.g., STM32, ESP32, TI, ARM Cortex).
· Implement real-time control algorithms for sensors, actuators, and system-level operations.
· Work with hardware abstraction layers and low-level drivers (UART, SPI, I2C, PWM, ADC, etc.).
· Collaborate with mechanical, thermal, and fluid engineers to integrate embedded systems into larger electromechanical platforms.
· Develop and test system control logic (PID, state machines, etc.) to ensure reliable operation of dynamic systems.
· Conduct functional, safety, and performance testing of embedded systems.
· Support the transition from prototype to scalable, manufacturable systems.
· Write clear technical documentation, including schematics, software architecture, interface descriptions, and test procedures.
