YOUR QUALIFICATIONS

While we value education, it is most important to us that you have demonstrated experience testing enterprise-grade, web-based applications and mobile apps.

Must-haves:

  • Demonstrated experience testing web-based software in a professional environment.
  • Working knowledge of tools, methods, and concepts of quality assurance.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Excellent data collection and analysis skills and knowledge of SQL and databases.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Experience with refining requirements and working with business managers
  • Experience working with production environments

Nice-to-haves:

  • Experience using Github Issues for software feature tracking.
  • Experience with Automated testing (graphical user interface testing using something like Selenium or API driven)
  • Prior experience within the insurance or financial services sectors.
  • Familiarity with the complexity of billing, rating algorithms, and interactions with payment platforms

Additionally, to be successful as a Quality Assurance Specialist at Square One the following should describe you:

  • Articulate: you must be able to communicate complex technical ideas to a wide audience (i.e., from the CEO, to front line sales agents, to product managers, to software developers).
  • Detail-oriented: At Square One we really sweat the small stuff. Do you think about all the obscure boundary cases that could occur in a feature? Do you enjoy getting to the bottom of every issue you come across?
  • Proactive: “Not my area” isn’t something that’s likely to be said at Square One. If you see something that needs improvement, then you’re expected to champion the cause.
  • Enjoys working in a fast-paced environment: While we are methodical in our approach, we are also relentless in our push to get things done and get code live and in the hands of our users.
Responsibilities

YOUR ROLE

As our business continues to grow dramatically across Canada, so do our ambitions – and we’re looking to add another Quality Assurance Specialist to the team to ensure that our software releases live up to our high standards. We sweat the small stuff so that our customers don’t have to – so we’re looking for someone with incredible attention to detail to ensure we’re providing customers with the most seamless hassle-free online experience possible.
As a Quality Assurance Specialist, Square One will really hit your career sweet spot. We’re big enough that you’ll have access to all the resources you need. You’ll also have the satisfaction of the code you’ve tested being used by thousands of customers every day. On the other hand, we’re still small enough that we don’t have a bunch of bureaucracy, and you’ll never get lost in the crowd. Each member of the team is critical to our success and is treated accordingly. And while we’re very nimble, we’re also focused on the long-term. That means we rather take the time to do things right than to rush out a new feature.
One of the things you enjoy most about Square One is the supportive team environment. You know you’re never set up for failure; instead, you get all the coaching, mentoring, training, and tools you need for continued success.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

The focus of this role is to develop and execute test plans for specific features and bugfixes in our in-house developed policy management system and mobile apps. There is also an opportunity to utilize your business analysis skills to ensure that all business requirements for new feature development have been clearly articulated and fully scoped. Finally, you will also be responsible for monitoring production usage of the system, and proactively identifying issues, and determining steps to reproduce them in our development environment. You will also take part in completing business requirements to liaise with internal users to capture requirement change requests, identify business/technical impacts, and gaps in the requested requirements and help with design sessions in prototyping new systems for the purpose of enhancing business processes, operations, and information process flow
